Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with accelerating inventory operations by instantly accessing existing product barcodes, Quick SKU Barcode is the better choice. Its focus on rapid display and navigation is perfectly suited for streamlining stock counts and audits. However, if a merchant's primary need is to generate, format, and manage SKUs and barcodes at scale, preventing duplicates and ensuring consistency across their product catalog, SKU Manager | Fontaine is the superior option. Its bulk automation features and customization options provide significant time savings and reduce the risk of errors during initial setup and ongoing maintenance. While both have positive reviews, the sample size is too small to draw definitive conclusions about general user satisfaction.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a new Shopify store with no SKUs?
SKU Manager | Fontaine is the better choice. It can automatically generate SKUs when new products are added, simplifying the initial store setup.
Can I use Quick SKU Barcode to print barcode labels?
No. Quick SKU Barcode focuses on screen-based display of barcodes and doesn't provide printing functionality.
Does SKU Manager | Fontaine support conditional updates for barcodes based on product tags?
The description mentions conditional updates based on product title and variant, but doesn't explicitly state support for product tags. Further research or direct contact with the developer is recommended.
How do the review counts impact my decision?
The low review counts (2 and 1 respectively) mean the ratings should be treated with caution. More reviews provide a more reliable indication of overall user satisfaction.
If I only need to scan items occasionally, is either app useful?
Quick SKU Barcode is more immediately useful for occasional scanning, assuming you already have a SKU system. SKU Manager Fontaine is still valuable if you want to proactively build that consistent, automated system even if only for occasional inventory checking.
