Rakuten Affiliate Tracking vs Roster: Ambassador Marketingfor Shopify (2026)
Rakuten Affiliate Tracking and Roster: Ambassador Marketing cater to distinct yet overlapping areas of affiliate and influencer marketing on Shopify. Rakuten Affiliate Tracking focuses on streamlining integration with the Rakuten Advertising network, providing tools for established Rakuten Advertising clients to manage their affiliate, display, and search programs. Its strength lies in automating product feed generation and cancellation reporting for Rakuten's platform, saving merchants time and effort in initial setup and ongoing maintenance. Roster: Ambassador Marketing, on the other hand, is a broader ambassador marketing platform. It provides a complete suite of tools for recruiting, engaging, rewarding, and measuring ambassador programs, aiming to leverage word-of-mouth marketing and user-generated content (UGC) to drive brand awareness and sales. Roster offers more control over the entire ambassador lifecycle, making it suitable for merchants who want to build and manage their own branded ambassador communities. While both aim to increase sales, they accomplish it through different approaches. The stark differences in ratings and review counts suggest significantly different user experiences and adoption rates, with Roster enjoying a substantially higher rating and more reviews, indicating greater user satisfaction or a wider user base. This data point is an important factor when choosing between the two solutions.

Our Verdict
For merchants already deeply embedded in the Rakuten Advertising network, Rakuten Affiliate Tracking offers a convenient and efficient way to manage their affiliate programs within that ecosystem. Its focus on automation for Rakuten's platform can save time and reduce manual effort. However, for merchants seeking a broader, more customizable ambassador marketing strategy, Roster: Ambassador Marketing is the stronger choice. Roster provides the tools necessary to build, engage, and reward a branded ambassador community, offering greater control and flexibility, and the higher rating and review count suggest a more positive user experience. Merchants not already committed to Rakuten Advertising should strongly consider Roster first.
