Real ID ‑ ID verification vs Signifydfor Shopify (2026)
Real ID ‑ ID verification and Signifyd both aim to reduce fraud for Shopify merchants, but they approach the problem differently. Real ID focuses on identity verification through ID checks, particularly for age-restricted products or high-risk orders. It emphasizes preventing chargebacks by confirming customer identities before or after checkout. Signifyd, on the other hand, offers a broader approach with financial guarantees against fraud-related chargebacks and intelligent returns protection. It positions itself as a comprehensive solution covering the entire customer journey, from checkout to returns, focusing on maximizing conversions and reducing losses due to both fraud and returns abuse. Our Verdict
Real ID is a better choice for merchants primarily concerned with verifying customer identities, especially those selling age-restricted products or experiencing specific chargeback issues related to identity. Its strength lies in its ease of use and proactive approach to identity verification. Signifyd is more suitable for larger merchants or those facing a broader range of fraud and return abuse challenges and seeking comprehensive protection with a financial safety net. While its rating is lower, the higher review count suggests it's a more established and potentially complex solution.
