Real ID ‑ ID verification vs Subunofor Shopify (2026)
Real ID - ID verification and Subuno both target fraud prevention on Shopify, but they approach the problem from different angles. Real ID focuses on identity verification using AI to prevent chargebacks and ensure compliance, particularly for age-restricted goods. It emphasizes verifying customers' identities through ID checks, often before or during the checkout process. Subuno, on the other hand, offers a rules-based fraud prevention platform focusing on analyzing order characteristics and leveraging third-party data to flag suspicious orders before fulfillment. It's designed for customizing fraud checks and automating order processing based on risk scores and other factors. While both apps aim to reduce chargebacks and protect revenue, Real ID is geared towards merchants selling products requiring age verification or those prioritizing verifying customer identities. Its key strength lies in its AI-powered ID verification and integration with the checkout process. Subuno, with its customizable rules and advanced data analytics, is better suited for merchants looking for a comprehensive fraud prevention system that analyzes order patterns and characteristics to identify and block suspicious transactions before they ship. The choice depends heavily on whether the merchant requires robust ID verification or a broader fraud detection platform.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling age-restricted products or facing issues with identity fraud, Real ID ‑ ID verification is the stronger choice due to its focus on ID verification and seamless integration with the checkout process. Its AI-powered verification simplifies age verification and reduces chargebacks related to identity issues.
However, for merchants needing a comprehensive fraud prevention system that analyzes a wider range of order characteristics and integrates with third-party data sources, Subuno provides a more robust and customizable solution. While it lacks the specific ID verification features of Real ID, its rules-based engine and advanced analytics offer greater flexibility in detecting and preventing various types of credit card fraud.
