Recomma: Product Quiz Builder vs TORO Sales Notificationsfor Shopify (2026)
Recomma: Product Quiz Builder and TORO Sales Notifications both aim to improve sales conversion on Shopify stores, but they do so through fundamentally different approaches. Recomma focuses on personalized product discovery, guiding customers to their ideal product using interactive quizzes that act as a '24/7 online sales assistant'. This is best for stores with diverse product ranges or where product selection can be complex (e.g., skincare, vitamins, fashion). TORO, on the other hand, leverages FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) to create urgency, displaying sales notifications and promoting discounts, offers, and best-selling items. It's aimed at immediate conversion by highlighting limited-time deals and scarcity. While Recomma aims to enhance the shopping experience through personalization and knowledge gathering (market insights), TORO concentrates on direct persuasion and leveraging psychological triggers. The 'Pop-ups' category overlap highlights their shared delivery mechanism – engaging visitors through on-screen displays. However, the intent behind these pop-ups differs significantly: Recomma uses quizzes to guide and educate, while TORO uses notifications to alert and incentivize immediate purchases. The stark difference in the number of reviews also suggests differing levels of adoption and established reputation within the Shopify ecosystem, favoring Recomma despite both apps showing perfect ratings.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants with extensive product lines or products requiring careful selection, Recomma: Product Quiz Builder provides a valuable tool for guiding customers and gathering valuable data about their preferences. It's a good choice for stores where personalization is key to the shopping experience.
Conversely, if a merchant's primary goal is to quickly increase sales by creating a sense of urgency and highlighting promotions, TORO Sales Notifications offers a more direct and straightforward solution. It is especially suited for stores running frequent sales or with limited-time offers where leveraging FOMO can drive immediate conversions. While both have 5/5 ratings, Recomma's significantly higher review count suggests greater adoption and potentially more tested reliability in the Shopify environment.
Common Questions
Which app is better for gathering customer data?
Recomma is better for gathering customer data. Its quiz format allows you to directly ask customers about their preferences and needs, providing valuable insights for product development and marketing. TORO primarily tracks sales data for triggering notifications, offering less direct customer feedback.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on their descriptions, TORO may offer a slightly simpler initial setup due to its straightforward focus on sales notifications. Recomma, with its quiz builder and logic jumps, may require more planning and configuration to create effective quizzes, although it aims to provide easy-to-use tools for this.
Which app is more likely to generate repeat customers?
Recomma's personalized recommendations can lead to a more satisfied customer base, potentially fostering long-term loyalty and repeat purchases. TORO's focus is more on immediate sales, and its impact on repeat customers is less direct unless promotions are consistently enticing.
What happens when the quiz is not relevant to the product that is being sold?
If the product quiz from Recomma is not relevant to the products being sold, it will provide no value to the shoppers and increase cart abandonment. You need to carefully design the quiz to match the types of products you sell.
How is Recomma different than a standard search engine?
Recomma provides a guided and interactive shopping experience that a search engine cannot. A search engine relies on the customer knowing what they want, whereas Recomma guides them to discover products that match their needs and preferences through a series of personalized questions.
