Recurpay: Subscriptions app vs Shopify Subscriptionsfor Shopify (2026)
Recurpay: Subscriptions app and Shopify Subscriptions both aim to help Shopify merchants establish predictable recurring revenue streams through subscription offerings. However, they differ significantly in their approach and target audience. Recurpay positions itself as a highly customizable and support-focused solution, emphasizing 24/7 live human support and extensive feature sets like custom subscription widgets and flexible renewal options. On the other hand, Shopify Subscriptions, being a native Shopify app, highlights ease of integration within the Shopify ecosystem and supports selling subscriptions on POS. The primary difference lies in the level of customization, support, and depth of features offered. Recurpay seems targeted towards merchants who require a more hands-on approach, specific branding options, and potentially more complex subscription models, and value human support. Shopify Subscriptions, in contrast, appears to be a more streamlined solution geared towards merchants prioritizing ease of setup and seamless integration with their existing Shopify setup, including in-person sales. The lower rating and number of reviews for Shopify Subscriptions could indicate areas where users seek more robust functionality or improvements in the user experience compared to Recurpay's stellar ratings.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a highly customizable subscription experience with dedicated support and advanced features like upfront payments, custom widgets, and tiered discounts, Recurpay: Subscriptions app is the clear choice. Its higher rating and positive reviews support its claims of reliability and ease of use, despite the need for more direct setup.
On the other hand, Shopify Subscriptions is more suited for merchants who prioritize seamless integration within the Shopify ecosystem, are comfortable with a more basic feature set, and value the ability to sell subscriptions through their POS system. While its rating is lower, the native integration might outweigh the missing advanced features for some merchants. Ultimately, the best app depends on the specific needs and priorities of the Shopify merchant.
