Our Verdict
If you are experiencing broken links, or just want to prevent them, Redirect Hero is the clear choice. It is especially valuable if you have a large store with many product pages, frequent product updates, or a history of broken links. On the other hand, Swish is the better choice for a merchant proactively seeking to improve overall site performance and conversion rates. This can be especially important for businesses with heavy media content or complex site features.
If you are deciding between the two, first assess if you are experiencing broken links frequently. If you are, Redirect Hero is an immediate solution. If not, and your website speed needs improvement, consider Swish. However, ideally, merchants should have *both* in their tool stack, since they are addressing distinct, vital areas of site optimization. Faster websites that avoid broken links are a best practice.
Common Questions
What problem does Redirect Hero solve that Swish does not?
Redirect Hero specifically addresses the problem of broken links and 404 errors, while Swish focuses on page speed optimization. Swish doesn't directly fix broken links.
Can Swish improve my SEO as much as Redirect Hero?
Swish directly aims to improve SEO ranking through page speed, which is a known ranking factor. Redirect Hero improves SEO *indirectly* by preventing broken links which can harm SEO if not addressed.
If I have a brand new store, which app should I consider first?
Swish might be beneficial earlier, as it addresses a fundamental aspect of site performance. Redirect Hero becomes more crucial as your store grows and evolves, creating a greater risk of broken links.
Are these apps mutually exclusive, or can I use them together?
They are not mutually exclusive and can be used together. One addresses broken links, the other page speed, both crucial to the customer experience.
Does having a fast website (improved by Swish) eliminate the need for Redirect Hero?
No. Even with a fast website, links can still break due to product deletions, URL changes, or typos. Redirect Hero ensures that visitors aren't lost to dead pages, regardless of site speed.
