Risksumo — Prevent COD Fraud vs Token of Trust Verificationfor Shopify (2026)
Risksumo — Prevent COD Fraud and Token of Trust Verification both aim to mitigate risks for Shopify merchants, but they address vastly different types of fraud. Risksumo directly targets Cash on Delivery (COD) order fraud, offering intelligent risk ratings based on pre-defined rules to help merchants identify and prevent fraudulent orders before fulfillment. It provides insights into why an order is flagged, enabling informed decisions about order acceptance or rejection. Token of Trust Verification, conversely, focuses on age verification and customer due-diligence. It enables merchants to comply with age restrictions on products and other legal requirements. Its primary strength lies in streamlining the verification process for returning customers and offering rule-based verification triggers. Therefore, their strengths lie in preventing different types of fraud, highlighting a need to tailor app choice to the merchant's specific risk profile and product types. Ultimately, the choice between the two depends on the merchant's business model and the risks they face. One app can't fulfil the needs of the other.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned about fraudulent Cash on Delivery orders, especially those experiencing significant losses, Risksumo — Prevent COD Fraud appears to be a targeted solution, offering risk assessment and insights. However, it's important to note the limited number of reviews, so a thorough evaluation of the app's performance in real-world scenarios is crucial.
If a merchant's primary concern is age verification for restricted products, meeting compliance requirements, and approving orders for legitimate customers, Token of Trust Verification offers a more suitable approach. The returning customer verification feature provides an additional benefit, reducing friction for repeat purchases. It may also satisfy payment gateways during their merchant evaluation, potentially streamlining merchant approval.
Common Questions
Which app is better for preventing fraud in general?
Neither app is superior for general fraud prevention; they target different kinds of fraud. Risksumo targets COD fraud, while Token of Trust targets age-related or identity fraud.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Without extensive data, we cannot definitively claim which is easier to use. Risksumo's rule-based system may be initially straightforward, while Token of Trust's customer verification might need initial configuration. It is suggested to look at the complexity of each app to choose which may be more suitable.
Which app has a better return on investment (ROI)?
ROI depends entirely on the specific needs of your business. If you lose money on fraudulent COD orders, Risksumo is likely to offer a better ROI. If you lose revenue from being unable to verify age or meet compliance mandates, Token of Trust is a better investment.
What happens if a COD order is incorrectly flagged as high risk in Risksumo?
The description states that Risksumo provides 'clear explanations for every flagged order'. Merchants can review these explanations and use their own judgment to decide whether to fulfill the order, potentially mitigating false positives.
Does Token of Trust Verification integrate with existing KYC (Know Your Customer) solutions?
