Rubik Variant Images & Swatch vs Trunk ‑ Stock Sync & Bundlingfor Shopify (2026)
Rubik Variant Images & Swatch and Trunk ‑ Stock Sync & Bundling, while both categorized under 'Custom products' and 'Product variants' on Shopify, cater to vastly different merchant needs. Rubik is specifically designed to enhance the visual presentation of products with multiple variants, such as clothing items with different colors, sizes, and materials. It aims to improve the customer shopping experience and reduce returns by showcasing only relevant variant images and swatches. Trunk, on the other hand, focuses on inventory management, especially for merchants selling across multiple channels. It synchronizes stock levels, manages bundles, and provides low stock alerts, optimizing operations and preventing overselling. The key differentiator lies in their core functionality. Rubik enhances product presentation and visual appeal to boost conversion rates within the Shopify store itself, appealing to visually driven product categories. Trunk centralizes inventory management, enabling merchants to efficiently manage stock across numerous sales platforms. The shared categories are superficial; in practice, they address totally different problems. Trunk also caters to merchants with complex product structures, like bundles and kits, making it useful even for shops that only sell on Shopify.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with enhancing their Shopify store's visual presentation of product variants, especially those dealing with products like apparel or cosmetics, Rubik Variant Images & Swatch is the clear choice. It addresses the specific need of displaying relevant images for different variant options, potentially boosting sales and reducing returns. It's best for single-channel Shopify stores looking to improve conversions.
However, if the primary concern is managing inventory across multiple sales channels (Shopify, Amazon, Etsy, etc.) or dealing with complex product bundling, Trunk ‑ Stock Sync & Bundling is the superior option. It offers a comprehensive solution for inventory synchronization, preventing overselling and streamlining operations. Trunk also makes sense if you sell product kits within a single shop.
Common Questions
Can Rubik help me if I sell on Amazon?
No. Rubik focuses solely on enhancing the product presentation *within* your Shopify store. Trunk, however, directly integrates with Amazon and many other marketplaces for inventory syncing.
Does Trunk improve the customer-facing product page?
Trunk does not directly alter the appearance of your product page. It focuses on the back-end inventory management aspects. Rubik directly affects the product page with variant images and swatches.
Which app is easier to set up?
The descriptions suggest different areas of ease. Rubik emphasizes seamless integration with themes and page builders, implying easy visual setup. Trunk claims to be set up quickly even with thousands of SKUs, suggesting ease in connecting to existing inventory.
Do both apps offer free trials?
The provided information does not mention free trials for either app. Further investigation is needed on the Shopify App Store to determine if either app offers a trial period.
If I sell a product that has multiple colors and sizes, which app is better?
Rubik Variant Images & Swatch is likely better for *displaying* those different colors and sizes visually on your product page. Trunk will not help with this, but could help if you sold the same product across many platforms. Focus on Rubik if the main issue is displaying product variations.
