RuffRuff Author Profiles vs SEO Speed Image Optimizerfor Shopify (2026)
RuffRuff Author Profiles and SEO Speed Image Optimizer are both 5-star rated Shopify apps in the SEO category, but they address vastly different aspects of store optimization. RuffRuff focuses on enhancing content credibility and circumventing staff account limitations by allowing merchants to add author profiles to blog posts, product pages, and standard pages. This is positioned as improving trust and SEO through demonstrated expertise. SEO Speed Image Optimizer, on the other hand, targets site speed and image SEO by automatically compressing images, optimizing alt text, and offering bulk image editing. SEO Speed Image Optimizer is positioned as a broader SEO solution with a greater emphasis on technical optimization, suitable for any store concerned about page load times and search engine rankings. RuffRuff Author Profiles addresses a narrower need by facilitating the display of author or creator information on content. The very small number of reviews (4) for RuffRuff Author Profiles, compared to 183 for SEO Speed Image Optimizer, suggests that the former has significantly lower market penetration or is a very new app. The only officially stated theme compatibility is for OS 2.0 for RuffRuff Author Profiles, so earlier themes are incompatible.

Our Verdict
Choosing between RuffRuff Author Profiles and SEO Speed Image Optimizer depends entirely on your store's needs. If your priority is to showcase authors or creators to boost content credibility, and you're operating on an OS 2.0 theme, RuffRuff Author Profiles is the appropriate choice. The feature to add more authors than staff accounts can is a plus if you are overextended in your staff count.
However, for a broader SEO improvement strategy focused on site speed and image optimization, SEO Speed Image Optimizer is the stronger option. Given the significantly higher number of reviews, it likely has a more established track record and a wider user base, making it a safer bet for general SEO improvements. Most stores will benefit more from the speed and SEO improvements from SEO Speed Image Optimizer, though stores with an author/creator-based editorial strategy should consider RuffRuff Author Profiles.
Common Questions
Does RuffRuff Author Profiles improve site speed?
The app description focuses on content credibility and author profiles, with SEO improvements being implied through authorship, not site speed. SEO Speed Image Optimizer is directly intended to improve site speed by optimizing images.
Can SEO Speed Image Optimizer add author profiles to my blog posts?
No, SEO Speed Image Optimizer focuses exclusively on image optimization and does not have any features related to author profiles or content attribution.
Is RuffRuff Author Profiles compatible with all Shopify themes?
No, the app description explicitly states compatibility only with OS 2.0 themes.
Which app is easier to use?
Both apps appear to be designed for ease of use. RuffRuff Author Profiles boasts a 4-step setup. SEO Speed Image Optimizer offers automated features and bulk editing, which can streamline the optimization process. Both appear to have similar levels of difficulty, but SEO Speed Image Optimizer's automation should make the experience more hands off.
If I only have a small budget, which app should I choose?
Without knowing the pricing of each app, it's impossible to give a definitive answer. However, given that SEO Speed Image Optimizer addresses a broader range of SEO concerns (site speed, image SEO), it is more likely to provide more overall value, especially if both apps are similarly priced. However, if you are in need of overcoming the staff count limitation, then RuffRuff would be beneficial.
