Selling Point vs TinyBackup: Backups & restorefor Shopify (2026)
Selling Point and TinyBackup: Backups & Restore, while both listed under the 'Selling online' and 'Store data importer' Shopify categories, address fundamentally different merchant needs. Selling Point focuses on a very specific problem: migrating existing Gift Cards and Store Credits from other platforms (POS systems, websites) into Shopify. It targets merchants switching to Shopify or consolidating systems who have a substantial existing gift card balance liability. TinyBackup, on the other hand, provides a broad data backup and restoration solution, aimed at protecting merchants from data loss due to errors, malicious activity, or app conflicts. Selling Point's core value proposition is saving time and money on gift card migration. It positions itself as a user-friendly alternative to manual data entry or custom development. TinyBackup's value lies in providing peace of mind and business continuity through automated data backups and easy restoration. While both aim to empower merchants, they do so in vastly different areas of store operations. One focuses on a one-time migration task, and the other on ongoing data protection.

Our Verdict
Selling Point is the clear choice for merchants who need to migrate existing Gift Cards or Store Credits to Shopify. Its targeted functionality directly addresses this specific need, offering a streamlined and efficient solution. If a merchant does not have this need, Selling Point is irrelevant.
TinyBackup: Backups & restore, conversely, is valuable for virtually *every* Shopify merchant. Data loss can be catastrophic, and having a reliable backup and restore solution is a fundamental best practice. While its rating is slightly lower, the core offering is essential for risk mitigation. For merchants prioritizing the protection of their product data, content, and configurations, TinyBackup: Backups & Restore is the more broadly applicable and crucial app.
Common Questions
Does Selling Point offer data backup capabilities like TinyBackup?
No, Selling Point focuses solely on Gift Card and Store Credit migration and generation. It does not provide a general data backup and restore service.
Can TinyBackup migrate Gift Card balances from another platform?
No, TinyBackup focuses on backing up and restoring store data like products and content. It does not have specific functionality for Gift Card or Store Credit migration.
Which app is easier to use?
Both apps claim to be easy to use. Selling Point emphasizes speed and efficiency in migration, while TinyBackup emphasizes a 'set it and forget it' approach to backups, meaning its ease of use is in the initial setup and then only in emergencies. The core actions within Selling Point happen less frequently, but might take more preparation.
Which app is more important for a new Shopify store?
While both apps can provide value, TinyBackup is generally more important for a new store. Protecting your store's initial setup and product data from day one is crucial. Selling Point only becomes relevant if the merchant is migrating from another platform with existing Gift Card liabilities.
Are there any overlaps in functionality between the apps?
Minimal. Both operate on store data. TinyBackup offers the broader capability of store-wide data backup and recovery. Selling Point helps import and migrate Gift Card and Store Credit data, which it also acts on, but it is not intended for data backup or recovery.
