ShipBob Fulfillment vs Spaceship: Shipping Automationfor Shopify (2026)
ShipBob Fulfillment and Spaceship: Shipping Automation both aim to streamline the shipping process for Shopify merchants, but they cater to different needs and business sizes. ShipBob, a well-established third-party logistics (3PL) provider, offers comprehensive warehousing and fulfillment services, ideal for businesses looking to outsource their entire fulfillment operation. They handle storage, picking, packing, and shipping, allowing merchants to focus on sales and marketing. ShipBob likely serves larger merchants shipping higher volumes that justify the cost of a full-service 3PL. Spaceship, on the other hand, focuses on shipping automation rather than full-scale fulfillment. It empowers merchants to manage their own inventory and packing but simplifies label generation, rate comparison, and tracking. It offers competitive discounts on global carriers and is designed for merchants who want to maintain control over their fulfillment process while optimizing shipping costs and efficiency. Given the emphasis on rate comparison and bulk shipments, this app is likely beneficial for businesses shipping a diverse range of products to various locations.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants seeking a completely hands-off fulfillment solution and willing to invest in a full-service 3PL, ShipBob Fulfillment is the clear choice. Its established presence and numerous positive reviews indicate a reliable service. However, businesses that prefer to manage their own inventory and packing but want to streamline the shipping process and save on costs should strongly consider Spaceship: Shipping Automation. While the review count is currently low, the perfect rating and focus on rate comparison and automation are compelling for cost-conscious merchants. The IOSS setup feature also gives it an edge for EU-bound shipments.
Common Questions
What level of involvement is required from me with each app?
ShipBob requires minimal involvement once the integration is set up, as they handle the entire fulfillment process. Spaceship requires more involvement as you manage inventory, packing, and shipping but automates label generation, rate shopping, and tracking updates.
Which app is better for international shipping?
Both apps support international shipping. However, Spaceship explicitly highlights discounts on global carriers and IOSS setup for EU shipments, making it potentially more advantageous for businesses heavily focused on international markets. ShipBob's international capabilities would need further investigation.
Is one app easier to use than the other?
Spaceship, with its focus on automation and single-click label generation, is likely easier to use for day-to-day shipping tasks for merchants already handling fulfillment. ShipBob, while simplifying fulfillment overall, has a potentially more complex initial setup process due to the scale of their service.
Which app is more cost-effective?
The cost-effectiveness depends on shipping volume and fulfillment needs. ShipBob's costs are likely higher due to warehousing and labor expenses, making it suitable for higher-volume merchants. Spaceship focuses on optimizing shipping costs with rate comparison and discounts, making it appealing to cost-conscious merchants who handle their own fulfillment.
What happens if I have an issue with a shipment with either app?
With ShipBob, you would contact their customer support team for any fulfillment-related issues. With Spaceship, you would likely need to contact the carrier directly for shipping-related issues, although Spaceship may offer some level of support with the label generation and tracking aspects.
