Shipping Rates by Postcode vs ShipX ‑ Shipping Rates & Rulesfor Shopify (2026)
Shipping Rates by Postcode and ShipX ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules are two Shopify apps designed to help merchants accurately calculate and customize shipping rates. Both apps aim to reduce cart abandonment by providing clear and accurate shipping costs upfront. However, they differ in their target audience and feature set. Shipping Rates by Postcode focuses on providing flexible delivery rates with calculated shipping rate rules and delivery zones on both a local and global scale. This app emphasizes ease of use and extensive location-based rate customization. ShipX, on the other hand, targets merchants with more complex shipping needs, such as dropshippers or those requiring origin-based rates, advanced rate blending, and AI-powered packaging calculations. ShipX distinguishes itself with advanced features like AI-based packaging and rate blending, making it suitable for businesses with intricate shipping processes. While Shipping Rates by Postcode has a strong focus on location-based rates, ShipX expands this with cart, product, and customer-specific rules. The number of reviews also signals a difference in market penetration, with ShipX having significantly more user feedback than Shipping Rates by Postcode. Both require carrier calculated shipping to function, suggesting they cater to merchants willing to pay for that Shopify feature.

Our Verdict
For merchants needing simple, location-based shipping rate control, particularly for local or international regions, Shipping Rates by Postcode offers a streamlined solution. Its focus on postcode-level rates and product groups makes it ideal for businesses with standard shipping processes. However, for businesses with complex shipping requirements, such as dropshipping, multiple suppliers, or a need for AI-powered packaging optimization, ShipX is the superior choice. ShipX offers a wider range of features, including rate blending, origin-based rates, and integrations with popular shipping platforms, justifying its potentially steeper learning curve. ShipX's higher review count also suggests a larger user base and more real-world testing of its capabilities.
