ShipStation vs Shopify Order Printerfor Shopify (2026)
ShipStation and Shopify Order Printer both address order management for Shopify merchants, but cater to vastly different needs and scales. ShipStation is a comprehensive shipping and fulfillment platform designed for businesses that require robust automation, discounted shipping rates, and inventory management. It aims to be the central hub for all fulfillment activities, integrating with multiple sales channels and carriers. Shopify Order Printer, on the other hand, is a much simpler, primarily free app that focuses on customizing and printing essential order documents like pick lists, packing slips, and invoices. Its strength lies in providing merchants with control over the appearance and content of these documents. ShipStation is geared towards merchants with significant order volumes and complex fulfillment processes, while Shopify Order Printer is a good solution for smaller businesses or those just starting out who need basic document customization capabilities. The difference in pricing (Shopify Order Printer being a free app) reflects this difference in scope. However, the lower rating of Shopify Order Printer suggests potential usability or feature limitations.

Our Verdict
If you're a small business or just starting out and need basic order document customization, Shopify Order Printer is a good free option. It allows you to create branded packing slips and invoices. However, if you are managing significant order volumes, need discounted shipping rates, and want to automate your entire fulfillment process, ShipStation is the clear choice despite the cost. Its comprehensive features for shipping automation, inventory management, and carrier integration offer significant benefits for scaling businesses.
Consider your business's specific needs and growth trajectory when making your decision. While Shopify Order Printer may be sufficient initially, scaling businesses will likely outgrow its capabilities and find ShipStation's robust feature set more beneficial.
