ShipX ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules vs ZIP Lock ‑ Restrict ZIP Codesfor Shopify (2026)
ShipX ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules and ZIP Lock ‑ Restrict ZIP Codes, while both listed under 'Delivery and pickup' in the Shopify app store, address drastically different needs. ShipX focuses on calculating and optimizing shipping rates based on various factors like cart contents, destination, and product dimensions. It caters to merchants who need granular control over their shipping costs and want to offer accurate, customized rates, potentially for drop shipping or complex product catalogs. ZIP Lock, conversely, focuses on restricting sales to specific geographic areas. It's designed for merchants who need to prevent orders from certain ZIP codes or states, potentially due to licensing restrictions, logistical limitations, or other business constraints. The core distinction lies in their purpose: ShipX optimizes shipping charges, while ZIP Lock restricts product availability based on location. ShipX boasts significantly more reviews (981) compared to ZIP Lock (2), suggesting a larger user base and broader adoption, but also a longer time to market. While both have a perfect 5-star rating, the small number of ZIP Lock reviews means this rating should be treated with caution and more detailed review content is needed to build confidence. The integration list for ShipX (Starshipit, Sendle, USPS etc.) indicates focus on shipping automation, and its use of AI for packaging and rate blending highlights advanced feature set. ZIP Lock's use of checkout UI extensions means that it's easy to install and use without any need to edit the theme.

Our Verdict
ShipX is ideal for merchants who require precise and dynamic shipping rate calculations, particularly those involved in dropshipping or dealing with diverse product dimensions and destinations. The AI-powered packaging and rate blending capabilities offer sophisticated customization. However, its reliance on Shopify's Carrier Calculated Shipping API and potentially complex rule sets might require more setup and management effort.
ZIP Lock is a better fit for merchants facing geographic sales restrictions or needing to prevent orders from specific areas. Its simplicity and checkout UI extensions make it easy to implement, even without technical expertise. For most stores ShipX would be beneficial as the shipping costs are important to make profit. If you need to restrict certain products by location, this would be vital.
