ShopSmart AI‑Powered eCommerce vs Squid: Reviews, Upsells & 25+for Shopify (2026)
ShopSmart AI‑Powered eCommerce and Squid: Reviews, Upsells & 25+ both aim to improve sales and customer experience on Shopify, but approach it from fundamentally different angles. ShopSmart focuses on AI-powered personalized product discovery, acting as a virtual shopping assistant to guide customers to the right products and accelerate the path to purchase. It targets merchants who want to provide a more intuitive and personalized shopping experience through conversational AI. Squid, on the other hand, is a comprehensive suite of tools focused on increasing AOV through upselling, cross-selling, and building trust via reviews and badges. The core difference lies in their primary function: ShopSmart is a personalized product discovery engine powered by AI, while Squid is a broad suite of sales optimization tools focused on maximizing AOV. Squid offers a greater range of features, including upsells, discounts, reviews, and trust badges, making it a swiss-army knife for sales improvement. ShopSmart specializes in using AI to personalize the product discovery process, which could result in a more substantial lift to conversion rates for merchants with larger product catalogs or those targeting customers who need more guidance. Both apps share the “Upsell and bundles - Other” category, but execute these features in different ways, with Squid offering more traditional Upsell and bundle options, versus ShopSmart's AI-driven product discovery leading to these bundles.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with improving product discovery and providing a highly personalized shopping experience, especially those with complex product catalogs, ShopSmart AI‑Powered eCommerce is the better choice. Its conversational AI approach can guide customers to the perfect product more effectively. However, for merchants seeking a broader range of tools to boost AOV through upselling, cross-selling, and building customer trust via reviews and badges, Squid: Reviews, Upsells & 25+ offers a more comprehensive solution.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on the specific needs of the Shopify store. If product discovery is a major pain point, ShopSmart is the clear winner. If a more holistic approach to sales optimization is desired, Squid provides a wider array of tools to experiment with and improve different aspects of the customer journey.
Common Questions
How does ShopSmart improve product discovery compared to Squid?
ShopSmart uses conversational AI to understand customer preferences and guides them to the right products through a dynamic Q&A process. Squid relies on more traditional upsell and cross-sell methods like 'Frequently Bought Together' and AI product recommendations, which are less personalized and interactive.
Which app is better for building trust with customers?
Squid is better for building trust directly, as it offers features like displaying customer reviews, testimonials, and trust badges. While ShopSmart aims to build trust indirectly by providing personalized and helpful product recommendations, it lacks the explicit trust-building features of Squid.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on their descriptions, ShopSmart might be slightly easier to set up due to its focus on a single core feature (AI-powered product discovery). Squid, with its larger feature set, could require more configuration and experimentation to optimize effectively.
Can both apps be used together to maximize sales?
Potentially. ShopSmart could be used to improve product discovery and drive initial purchases, while Squid could be used to increase AOV through upselling and cross-selling at various stages of the buying process. However, care should be taken to ensure the experiences are not redundant or conflicting.
What types of businesses are best suited for each app?
ShopSmart is ideal for businesses with large or complex product catalogs, fashion retailers and those that would benefit from assisted shopping. Squid is suited for a broad range of e-commerce businesses, especially those that want to quickly implement multiple sales optimization techniques such as trust badges, discounts, and upsells.
