Signifyd vs Subunofor Shopify (2026)
Signifyd and Subuno both address fraud prevention for Shopify merchants, but they take fundamentally different approaches. Signifyd positions itself as a comprehensive, AI-powered solution offering a financial guarantee against fraud chargebacks and intelligent returns management. It aims to provide a hands-off experience, shifting the liability from the merchant to Signifyd. This makes it attractive to larger merchants or those seeking complete fraud protection without the need for manual intervention. Subuno, on the other hand, offers a more customizable and rules-based approach. It allows merchants to define their own fraud checks and automate order screening based on various risk factors. This platform is designed for merchants who want greater control over their fraud prevention strategies and prefer a more hands-on approach. While Subuno doesn't offer a financial guarantee, it provides tools for manual review and advanced data analytics to aid in fraud detection and prevention. Its flexibility appeals to merchants who want to integrate fraud checks into their existing processes and are willing to invest time in configuring and managing the system.

Our Verdict
For larger Shopify stores or those prioritizing hands-off fraud protection and willing to pay for a financial guarantee, Signifyd is the superior choice. Its AI-powered decisioning and coverage against chargebacks offer peace of mind. However, merchants who prefer a more granular and customizable approach, and who want to retain control over fraud management, will find Subuno to be a better fit. Subuno's rules-based system and manual review tools provide flexibility and allow merchants to fine-tune their fraud prevention strategies. The relatively low number of reviews for Subuno should be considered, prompting a deeper dive into recent customer experiences before making a decision. Ultimately, risk tolerance and desired level of control are the deciding factors.
Given the difference in review count, it would be prudent to carefully weigh the rating of Subuno. While a 5/5 rating is excellent, it's based on a small sample size. Signifyd, with 73 reviews, provides a more statistically significant representation of user experience, despite the lower rating. Merchants should read recent reviews for both apps to get the most up-to-date understanding of their current performance and customer satisfaction.
Common Questions
What is the biggest difference between Signifyd and Subuno?
The biggest difference is the approach to fraud prevention. Signifyd offers a financial guarantee and AI-powered decisions, shifting liability. Subuno provides a customizable, rules-based system where merchants retain liability.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Signifyd likely offers a simpler setup due to its automated decisioning. Subuno requires more configuration as merchants define their own fraud rules.
Which app is better for preventing return fraud?
Signifyd explicitly addresses return fraud and abuse with its Intelligent Returns Protection. Subuno's description doesn't mention return fraud prevention.
Which app offers a more cost-effective solution for small businesses?
Without pricing information, it's impossible to say definitively. However, Subuno's customizable nature might allow smaller businesses to start with a basic setup and scale as needed, potentially making it initially more cost-effective. Signifyd's comprehensive guarantee likely comes at a higher price.
How does the review count affect the decision?
Signifyd's larger review count (73 vs. 4) provides more confidence in its overall performance and user experience. While Subuno has a perfect rating, the small sample size means it might not be as representative of the broader user base. Merchants should seek out more recent reviews to make an informed decision.
