Skeps Pay‑Over‑Time Messaging vs TryOnify: Try Before You Buyfor Shopify (2026)
Skeps Pay‑Over‑Time Messaging and TryOnify: Try Before You Buy both aim to increase sales, but they approach the problem from very different angles. Skeps focuses on offering installment payment plans, messaging customers with financing options from US banks right on the product page. This targets customers who might be hesitant to make larger purchases due to upfront cost. TryOnify, on the other hand, focuses on a 'Try Now, Pay Later' model, allowing customers a free trial period before they are charged. This aims to reduce cart abandonment due to uncertainty about the product or perceived risks. The key difference lies in their value propositions. Skeps is about affordability and financing options, offering higher line sizes and configurable promotions, while TryOnify is about risk reduction and building customer trust through a free trial. Skeps relies on integration with a separate payment app, while TryOnify handles payment deferral and automatic collection. Their target audiences also differ: Skeps appears to be tailored for businesses selling higher-value items and looking to offer flexible financing, while TryOnify seems suited for businesses looking to encourage trial and overcome purchase hesitation, especially where returns are a concern.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling high-value items where cost is a barrier, and who already utilize or are considering using a 'buy now, pay later' type service, Skeps Pay-Over-Time Messaging (in conjunction with the full Skeps Pay-Over-Time app) presents a potential solution. However, the lack of reviews raises concerns about its reliability and effectiveness. Merchants should proceed with caution and thoroughly research the integration process.
For merchants selling products where customer hesitation is related to uncertainty about the product itself – clothing, software, etc. – TryOnify provides a compelling value proposition. While the number of reviews is limited, the perfect rating suggests positive early experiences. The ease of setup and automatic payment collection make it attractive for merchants seeking a straightforward solution to reduce cart abandonment and build customer confidence. Given the current data, TryOnify appears to be the more reliable and easily implemented option.
