Smart Size Chart & Size Guide vs Variant Option Product Optionsfor Shopify (2026)
Smart Size Chart & Size Guide and Variant Option Product Options cater to distinct needs within the Shopify ecosystem, despite sharing the 'Custom products' and 'Product variants' categories. Smart Size Chart focuses squarely on helping customers find the right size for apparel, shoes, and other sized goods, aiming to reduce returns and increase sales by providing visually appealing and customizable size charts. Variant Option Product Options, on the other hand, addresses the limitations of Shopify's native product options, allowing merchants to offer an unlimited number of product options and variants, enabling extensive customization and personalized product configurations. The key difference lies in their primary function. Smart Size Chart enhances the customer experience by providing size guidance, especially valuable for fashion and related e-commerce stores. Variant Option Product Options expands the product customization capabilities of a store, suitable for businesses offering configurable products with numerous options, such as personalized gifts, custom-built items, or products with complex color and material choices. While both aim to boost sales, they achieve this through different mechanisms: Smart Size Chart through better fit accuracy and reduced returns, and Variant Option Product Options through expanded customization and product configuration possibilities.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling clothing, shoes, or any product where size is a critical factor, Smart Size Chart & Size Guide is the clear choice. Its focus on creating visually appealing and informative size charts directly addresses the problem of customers ordering the wrong size, which leads to returns and lost sales. The 5/5 rating, although based on fewer reviews, suggests a high level of satisfaction among its users.
However, if a merchant needs to offer highly customizable products with a large number of options and variants, Variant Option Product Options is the more appropriate solution. Its ability to overcome Shopify's variant limits, combined with features like price add-ons and custom text boxes, makes it a powerful tool for creating personalized product experiences. Despite the slightly lower rating, the significantly higher number of reviews suggests it's a more established and widely used app in its niche.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Smart Size Chart & Size Guide likely has a simpler setup process, focusing on creating and customizing size charts. Variant Option Product Options, with its broader range of features and customization options, may have a steeper learning curve.
Which app is better for mobile users?
Both apps claim to have mobile-responsive designs, but Smart Size Chart & Size Guide explicitly highlights this as a key feature, suggesting potentially superior mobile usability for viewing size charts on smaller screens.
Can Smart Size Chart & Size Guide handle product variations?
While Smart Size Chart & Size Guide focuses on size, it can likely handle basic variations within a size chart, such as different measurements for different styles of the same product. It doesn't directly manage product variants in the same way as Variant Option Product Options.
Does Variant Option Product Options work with all Shopify themes?
It's impossible to say definitively without further information, but app descriptions often mention theme compatibility. Merchants should check the app documentation or contact the developer to ensure compatibility with their specific theme.
If I sell t-shirts with custom logos, which app is more suitable?
Variant Option Product Options is better suited. It enables options for uploading logos and adding custom text, directly addressing the needs of personalized t-shirt sales. Smart Size Chart & Size Guide would only be relevant for providing sizing information.
