ST: Product & Collection Sort vs VIM: Variant Image Modulefor Shopify (2026)
In 2026, Shopify merchants choosing between ST: Product & Collection Sort and VIM: Variant Image Module are essentially weighing two different approaches to optimizing their online store. ST focuses on *collection merchandising*, leveraging data to automate sorting and product placement to maximize revenue and minimize manual work. It targets merchants looking to strategically present their products based on performance data like views, add-to-carts, and revenue, as well as inventory and product attributes. In contrast, VIM tackles *product presentation* by enhancing the display of product variants with dedicated image galleries, aiming to improve the shopping experience and showcase all possible variations clearly. VIM is specifically beneficial for merchants who sell products with many variations (e.g., clothing with different colors and sizes). It prioritizes visually representing each variant, making it easy for customers to see exactly what they're buying. ST, with its data-driven sorting and collection management, appeals to merchants with larger catalogs seeking automation and data-backed strategies to drive sales. The vast difference in review count (179 vs 16) indicates significantly wider adoption of ST, though this does not necessarily reflect overall app quality or suitability to any given store. However it can reflect wider brand presence and a longer history with Shopify merchants.
