Our Verdict
The choice between Storebuddy and Tax Rex hinges entirely on the merchant's specific needs. If the merchant requires comprehensive bookkeeping automation encompassing orders, payments, and invoicing and operates in various business models (B2B, B2C, B2G), then Storebuddy is the more suitable option. This is particularly relevant for businesses looking for a single login across multiple webshops and a broad overview of their finances.
However, if the primary concern is managing US sales tax compliance, particularly with the complexities of economic nexus and state-specific reporting requirements, Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automation is the clear winner. Its features, such as automated sales tax return filings, accurate reports tailored to state requirements, and economic nexus alerts, address the specific pain points of US-based businesses navigating the ever-changing landscape of sales tax regulations. The much larger number of reviews (91 vs 5) also suggests greater confidence in Tax Rex specifically for US sales tax compliance needs.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a small business just starting out?

The information provided does not explicitly state that Storebuddy handles sales tax calculations. It focuses on bookkeeping of existing data.
Can Tax Rex handle international VAT?
The description of Tax Rex explicitly focuses on US state sales tax and does not mention handling international VAT.
Is Storebuddy suitable for businesses selling through multiple channels (e.g., online store and physical store)?
While Storebuddy supports a single login for multiple webshops, it's unclear if it integrates directly with physical point-of-sale systems. Further investigation is needed to confirm its suitability for omnichannel businesses.
What level of accounting knowledge is required to use each app effectively?
Storebuddy aims to automate bookkeeping, suggesting it's designed for users with varying levels of accounting knowledge. Tax Rex simplifies sales tax filing, but some understanding of sales tax principles is likely beneficial for interpreting reports and managing state registrations.
