Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants primarily concerned with general US state sales tax reporting, automated filing, and nexus tracking, Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automation appears to be the better choice, given its positive ratings and established user base. Its feature set directly addresses the pain points of standard sales tax compliance. However, if a Shopify store deals significantly with resellers, nonprofits, or other entities requiring tax exemptions, TaxWisp would be more suitable. It streamlines the often complex process of managing exemption certificates and ensuring compliance with exemption rules. The lack of reviews for TaxWisp warrants caution; however, its specialized feature set for exemption management fills a specific need that Tax Rex does not address.
