Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automation vs TSE (KassenSichV)for Shopify (2026)
Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automation and TSE (KassenSichV) are both Shopify apps in the Finances and Taxes categories, but they cater to fundamentally different needs and geographies. Tax Rex focuses on automating US state sales tax compliance, offering features like report generation, autofiling, nexus alerts, and state registration assistance. Its target audience is US-based e-commerce businesses seeking to streamline their sales tax obligations and avoid penalties. In contrast, TSE (KassenSichV) addresses the specific requirements of German retailers governed by the KassenSichV regulation, focusing on recording and exporting POS transaction data to comply with German tax laws. The critical difference lies in their target audiences and the legal frameworks they address. Tax Rex helps US merchants navigate the complexities of state sales tax, while TSE (KassenSichV) is designed solely for German retailers adhering to KassenSichV. The substantial difference in ratings (5/5 vs. 1.3/5) and review count (91 vs. 21) strongly suggests a stark difference in user satisfaction, with Tax Rex users likely finding the app more helpful and effective for their needs. While the small sample size for TSE (KassenSichV) may affect reliability, the low rating indicates potential issues with its functionality, usability, or compliance efficacy. Moreover, Tax Rex also allows for ignoring orders imported from marketplaces, adding more flexibility.

Our Verdict
For US-based Shopify merchants struggling with sales tax compliance across multiple states, Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automation is the clear choice, given its high rating, robust features, and focus on the US market. Its automation capabilities and economic nexus alerts offer significant time savings and peace of mind. Conversely, TSE (KassenSichV) is exclusively for German retailers who must comply with the KassenSichV regulation. While it provides the necessary tools for POS transaction recording and reporting, the low rating raises concerns about its usability and reliability, suggesting merchants might want to explore alternative KassenSichV-compliant solutions before committing to this app. If you are not a German retailer that needs to comply with KassenSichV regulations, TSE (KassenSichV) is completely irrelevant.
