Token of Trust Verification vs Verdivo ‑ Chargeback Managerfor Shopify (2026)
Token of Trust Verification and Verdivo ‑ Chargeback Manager are both Shopify apps in the 'Fraud' category, but they address fundamentally different aspects of risk management. Token of Trust focuses on age verification and compliance, allowing merchants selling age-restricted products to verify customer identities and set rules for when verification is required. It aims to increase order approvals and sales by streamlining the verification process and reducing friction for returning, verified customers. Verdivo, on the other hand, tackles chargebacks. It automates the chargeback management process, integrating with Shopify and payment processors to build AI-powered responses, manage alerts, and submit evidence. Its primary goal is to recover lost revenue and protect merchant accounts by efficiently disputing fraudulent or invalid chargebacks. The two apps are therefore targeted at distinct merchant needs, one focused on proactive age verification and the other on reactive chargeback management.

Our Verdict
The choice between Token of Trust Verification and Verdivo ‑ Chargeback Manager depends heavily on the specific needs of the Shopify store. If a merchant sells age-restricted products like alcohol, tobacco, or certain types of games, Token of Trust is essential for ensuring compliance and avoiding legal issues. Its ease of use and focus on repeat customer verification make it a strong choice for those businesses.
However, if a merchant experiences a significant number of chargebacks and wants to automate the dispute resolution process, Verdivo is the better option. Its seamless integration with payment processors and AI-powered response generation can save time and potentially recover substantial revenue. While both apps address fraud-related concerns, they do so in fundamentally different ways.
Common Questions
Does Token of Trust protect against chargebacks?
Token of Trust primarily focuses on preventing sales to underage individuals by verifying their age. While it might indirectly reduce some types of fraud that lead to chargebacks, it's not designed for chargeback management. Verdivo is the better option for direct chargeback protection.
Is Verdivo useful for stores that don't experience many chargebacks?
While Verdivo is designed to manage and recover chargebacks, even stores with few chargebacks may find value in its proactive alert system which aims to prevent chargebacks before they occur.
Does Token of Trust integrate with payment gateways?
The description indicates that Token of Trust can 'help customers with approval by payment gateways', but it does not explicitly state a direct integration. The primary integration is for customer verification within the Shopify store.
Is either app difficult to set up and use?
The app descriptions suggest both are relatively easy to use. Token of Trust emphasizes its simplicity for customers, while Verdivo highlights its seamless integration with Shopify and payment processors, indicating a straightforward setup process.
Which app is more important for a new Shopify store?
It depends on the products being sold. If the store sells age-restricted products, Token of Trust is crucial for compliance from the start. If not, focusing on marketing and initial sales might be more important, delaying chargeback management until it becomes a significant issue. However, if experiencing chargebacks from the start, Verdivo is highly recommended.
