Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants primarily concerned with boosting product image SEO and achieving basic ALT text accessibility for variant images, Variant Alt Text King: SEO is the better choice. It's a focused solution that automates a specific task. However, for merchants committed to full store accessibility, complying with various legal standards (WCAG, ADA, EAA), and ensuring a user-friendly experience for all customers, Web Accessibility by Wawsome is the superior option. While it requires more upfront investment and effort to address scanner findings, it offers a broader and more comprehensive approach to accessibility.
Common Questions

Variant Alt Text King: SEO likely has a simpler setup, focusing solely on ALT text automation. Web Accessibility by Wawsome, while advertised as easy setup, may require more time to interpret scanner results and implement suggested fixes.
Which app provides more comprehensive accessibility support?
Web Accessibility by Wawsome offers far more comprehensive accessibility support, addressing various disabilities and legal compliance requirements across the entire store.
Which app is better for improving search engine rankings?
Variant Alt Text King: SEO directly improves search engine rankings by optimizing product image ALT text. Web Accessibility by Wawsome indirectly helps by creating a better user experience and making the site more crawlable, which are both ranking factors. However, Web Accessibility by Wawsome is designed more for legal risk management and providing a better user experience.
Does Variant Alt Text King: SEO address legal compliance requirements like ADA?
Variant Alt Text King: SEO mentions ADA compliance in its headline, but its functionality is limited to optimizing ALT text. Which app is better for a store with a large inventory of products and frequent updates?
