Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell vs Essential Free Shipping Upsellfor Shopify (2026)
Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell and Essential Free Shipping Upsell are both Shopify apps designed to increase Average Order Value (AOV) and sales through upselling and cross-selling. However, they approach this goal with different strategies and target slightly different merchant needs. Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell focuses on upselling *after* the initial purchase, implying a broader range of potential offers beyond just free shipping. Essential Free Shipping Upsell, on the other hand, is explicitly centered around leveraging the 'free shipping' incentive as a cart goal to encourage customers to add more items to their carts *before* checkout. Essential Free Shipping Upsell directly addresses the common merchant dilemma of offering free shipping without cutting into profit margins. Its primary strength lies in its clear, focused approach to incentivizing customers to meet a cart value threshold for free shipping, with customization options for the progress bar and the reward itself. Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell, while offering post-purchase upsells, lacks the targeted focus on free shipping thresholds to drive AOV. While a large number of reviews often suggests a more established or popular app, the perfect 5/5 rating for Essential Free Shipping Upsell, albeit with fewer reviews, may indicate a higher level of customer satisfaction. The number of reviews also provide a good indicator of how old and popular the app is. Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell has been downloaded enough to generate over 600 reviews, making it seem to have been on the app store longer than the Essential Free Shipping Upsell App.

Our Verdict
For merchants specifically struggling with offering free shipping profitably and looking for a straightforward way to boost AOV by incentivizing customers to add more to their carts, Essential Free Shipping Upsell is the more targeted and potentially more effective solution. Its focused approach and highly rated reviews make it a compelling choice.
However, if a merchant is looking for a broader, more versatile upselling strategy that extends beyond the initial purchase and encompasses a wider range of offers, Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell might be a better fit. Though its strategy might be more complex to set up, it will provide more long term value for existing clients.
