Age Guard: Age Verification vs DRINKS ASSUREfor Shopify (2026)

Age Guard focuses on simple age verification for websites, aiming for broad applicability across stores needing to restrict access based on age. It's positioned as an easy-to-implement solution for general age compliance. DRINKS ASSURE, in contrast, is a highly specialized app built for alcohol producers and retailers. It provides real-time tax and regulatory compliance specifically for alcohol sales, integrating deeply into the Shopify checkout process. The most significant difference lies in their target audience and core functionality. Age Guard offers a customizable age verification popup, while DRINKS ASSURE provides comprehensive tax and compliance management for alcohol, including POS integration and detailed reporting. DRINKS ASSURE is the more sophisticated app offering a 'set-it-and-forget' solution for a highly regulated vertical, whereas Age Guard provides a more basic barrier to website entry based on age, with customization options.

Our Verdict
The choice between Age Guard: Age Verification and DRINKS ASSURE is straightforward. If you sell alcohol and need to manage complex tax and compliance requirements, DRINKS ASSURE is the clear choice. However, if you operate a business that requires only basic age verification for website access, and don't sell alcohol, then Age Guard: Age Verification is the more suitable, simpler solution.
Given the 0 rating and no reviews for Age Guard, merchants should exercise caution and potentially look for alternatives with established reputations and positive user feedback even for basic age verification needs. DRINKS ASSURE's high rating and user reviews suggest a reliable and effective solution within its niche.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Age Guard claims to have a simple setup and integration, while DRINKS ASSURE is powerful and customizable but may require more configuration initially. However, it's designed to be 'set-it-and-forget' once configured.
Which app is more suitable for an online vape store?
Age Guard is designed for general age verification, while DRINKS ASSURE is specifically for alcohol. Therefore, if a vape store just needs to prevent underage access to the site, Age Guard might be a basic option. However, depending on vape regulations, more robust compliance apps (not these) might be needed.
Does Age Guard handle age verification at the point of sale (POS)?
No, Age Guard only focuses on verifying age before site access through a popup. It does not offer POS integration.
Can DRINKS ASSURE be used for products other than alcohol?
DRINKS ASSURE is specifically designed for alcohol tax and regulatory compliance. It is not intended for use with other types of products.
What if my store sells both alcohol and other age-restricted products? Which app should I use?
You would likely need both, or an app that can handle both. DRINKS ASSURE for the alcohol aspect, and another app for the general age restrictions needed for the other age-restricted products.
