AOV Bundles Volume Discounts vs Checkout | Flowfor Shopify (2026)
AOV Bundles Volume Discounts and Checkout | Flow are both highly-rated Shopify apps (5/5) in the Upsell and Cross-sell category, but they address different stages of the customer journey and target different merchant needs. AOV Bundles Volume Discounts focuses on pre-checkout optimization, encouraging larger purchases through strategically placed bundles, volume discounts, and 'frequently bought together' offers. It emphasizes ease of use and customizable widgets designed to blend seamlessly with the store's branding. Its strengths lie in its AI-powered recommendations and multiple bundle creation options (fixed sets, mix-and-match, build-your-own), aiming to increase Average Order Value (AOV). It is geared towards merchants wanting to improve pre-checkout conversion and encourage customers to add more items to their cart. Checkout | Flow, conversely, concentrates on post-add-to-cart revenue generation, targeting the checkout, thank-you, and order status pages. It leverages Shopify's Checkout Extensibility to allow for upsells, free shipping bars, content additions (text, banners, FAQs), and form integrations directly within the checkout process. It also offers branding customization options using the checkout branding API and built-in analytics to track performance. This app caters to merchants seeking to optimize the checkout funnel, minimize cart abandonment, and maximize revenue at the final stages of the buying process. The free white-glove onboarding suggests the developers are confident in their product's ability to deliver value and offer high-quality support.

Our Verdict
Choosing between AOV Bundles Volume Discounts and Checkout | Flow depends on where a merchant needs the most help in optimizing their sales funnel. AOV Bundles Volume Discounts is the better choice for merchants struggling with a low Average Order Value or seeking to encourage customers to buy more items per transaction. Its AI-powered recommendations and diverse bundling options offer a proactive approach to increasing sales from the initial product browsing stage.
On the other hand, Checkout | Flow is ideal for merchants experiencing cart abandonment issues or those who believe their checkout process is not optimized for conversions. Its checkout upsells, content additions, and customization features provide the tools needed to recapture potentially lost sales and enhance the customer experience at the most crucial point in the buying process. Merchants with a higher technical aptitude or those willing to leverage the white-glove onboarding will likely see greater benefits from Checkout | Flow. For best results, a merchant could use both tools, with AOV Bundles helping increase cart size pre-checkout, and Checkout | Flow finalizing the purchase during checkout.
