AppHero: Free Gift Upsell BOGO vs Govalo | Gift Card Suitefor Shopify (2026)
AppHero: Free Gift Upsell BOGO and Govalo | Gift Card Suite both target the "Gifts" category on Shopify, but cater to distinct merchant needs. AppHero focuses on increasing AOV and sales through strategic free gift promotions such as Buy One Get One (BOGO) and Buy X Get Y offers. Its strength lies in its ability to drive impulse purchases and reward customers based on cart value or product selection. In contrast, Govalo focuses on providing a robust gift card solution, including customizable gift cards, giftable subscriptions, and options for out-of-stock items. The primary difference lies in their core functionality: AppHero is a promotion tool for increasing order sizes with free gifts, while Govalo is a tool to offer enhanced gift card and subscription capabilities. AppHero would be preferred by merchants looking to boost sales volume through strategic free gift campaigns. Govalo is best suited for merchants seeking to offer comprehensive gifting options including customizable gift cards and subscriptions, and to drive sales even when products are out of stock, catering to a user base looking to streamline gift-giving. While AppHero's rating is higher based on fewer reviews, Govalo has significantly more reviews, suggesting a wider user base and potentially more comprehensive feedback, albeit with a lower average rating.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants primarily concerned with immediately boosting AOV and sales through strategic free gift promotions (e.g., BOGO deals), AppHero: Free Gift Upsell BOGO is the likely better choice, especially if ease of setup is a priority. However, keep in mind the limited number of reviews. For merchants focused on providing a comprehensive gifting experience, including customizable digital gift cards, giftable subscriptions and handling sales of out of stock items, Govalo | Gift Card Suite offers a more robust feature set, despite the lower rating. Merchants interested in gift card-driven email marketing will benefit from Govalo's integrations.
