In 2026, Shopify merchants deciding between Bird: Email, SMS, WhatsApp and HiTide: Grow your SMS List face distinctly different value propositions. Bird aims to be a comprehensive communication platform encompassing email, SMS, and WhatsApp marketing. Our Verdict
HiTide appears to be the stronger choice for merchants actively leveraging Instagram for marketing and using one of the supported SMS platforms (Attentive, BigCo, Klaviyo, Postscript, Sendlane, Yotpo). Its targeted approach to SMS list growth, combined with a perfect rating and integrations with major SMS providers, makes it a compelling option. Bird might be suitable for merchants seeking a single app for all email, SMS, and WhatsApp communication, *but* the extremely low review count and mediocre rating suggests caution. It's best to thoroughly investigate Bird before committing, and consider waiting for more user feedback.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the descriptions, HiTide likely offers a simpler setup due to its focused functionality and potentially ready-made Instagram DM templates. Bird, with its broader feature set, may require more configuration.
Which app is better for measuring ROI from social media?
HiTide explicitly states that it makes it easy to measure social ROI when combined with an existing SMS platform.
Which app is better for merchants NOT using Attentive, BigCo, Klaviyo, Postscript, Sendlane, or Yotpo?
HiTide's description heavily emphasizes its integrations with those specific platforms. If you're not using those, HiTide's key advantage is diminished. Bird *might* be a better option, but its lack of reviews makes it risky.
What are the potential risks of choosing Bird?
The primary risk of choosing Bird is the very low number of reviews (2) and a sub-par rating (3.6/5). This suggests potential issues with the app's functionality, customer support, or reliability. Further investigation is crucial before committing.
Does HiTide offer more than just SMS list growth?
Based on the description, HiTide's primary focus is SMS list growth through Instagram. It facilitates subscriber acquisition, reactivation, and engagement through various campaign types, but it's not a full-fledged SMS marketing platform itself. It complements, rather than replaces, those platforms (Attentive, BigCo, Klaviyo, Postscript, Sendlane, Yotpo).
