BIRSE: Visual Search vs Year Make Model ‑ EasySearchfor Shopify (2026)
BIRSE: Visual Search and Year Make Model - EasySearch both aim to improve search and navigation on Shopify stores, but cater to drastically different needs. BIRSE focuses on general visual and keyword search enhancements, offering features like image recognition, AI-powered recommendations, and a wishlist, targeting merchants selling visually driven products like apparel, accessories, or home goods. Year Make Model - EasySearch, on the other hand, is purpose-built for auto parts and similar industries requiring fitment verification. Its key features include a YMM search widget, fitment tables, and a 'My Garage' feature, enabling customers to find parts compatible with their specific vehicles or devices. The primary difference lies in their application. BIRSE aims to enhance the overall shopping experience through visual discovery and personalized recommendations, appealing to a broader range of e-commerce stores. Year Make Model - EasySearch addresses a very specific need within the automotive and related industries: ensuring product fitment. It offers specialized tools and a preloaded database to streamline this process, increasing customer satisfaction and reducing returns. While BIRSE offers analytics on search behavior, Year Make Model – EasySearch provides fitment specific functionalities which are absent in BIRSE.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling auto parts, electronics requiring compatibility checks, or any product where 'fit' is a critical factor, Year Make Model - EasySearch is the clear winner. Its specialized YMM search and fitment tools directly address the core need of ensuring product compatibility, leading to increased customer satisfaction and fewer returns. The higher number of reviews, despite the slightly lower rating, suggests wider adoption and a proven track record within its niche.
BIRSE: Visual Search is better suited for general e-commerce stores looking to enhance product discovery and boost cross-selling through visual search, AI-powered recommendations, and a wishlist feature. If your products are visually appealing and browsing is a key part of the shopping experience, BIRSE's focus on image recognition and personalized suggestions makes it a strong contender. While BIRSE has a perfect rating, the low review count suggests it is a newer app or has a smaller user base.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Both apps claim easy installation. However, BIRSE: Visual Search might be simpler for stores with existing product images and descriptions, as it leverages those for visual search. Year Make Model - EasySearch requires initial setup of the YMM database or importing your own, potentially adding complexity.
Can I use both apps on my Shopify store?
While technically possible, it is generally not recommended. The functionalities of both apps are quite different, and using both would likely lead to unnecessary code bloat and potential conflicts. Choose the app that best aligns with your specific needs.
Does BIRSE work for products that aren't visually distinctive?
BIRSE relies heavily on visual similarity. Products with minimal visual differences might not benefit as much from the visual search and recommendation features. Keyword search is still available, but the core value proposition lies in visual discovery.
Can I customize the Year Make Model search fields in Year Make Model - EasySearch?
Yes, Year Make Model - EasySearch allows you to add your own set of YMM records. This customization is crucial for adapting the app to industries beyond automotive or for supporting specific vehicle models or devices.
How does BIRSE handle products with variations (e.g., different colors or sizes)?
The description mentions "Product recommendations: exact matches and style suggestions.", implying that the product recommendations can take variations into account. It is important to verify whether the app recognizes variations during the trial.
