Chargeup Extra Fee vs Product Samples by Lukefor Shopify (2026)
Chargeup Extra Fee and Product Samples by Luke are both Shopify apps focusing on pricing strategies, but they cater to vastly different needs and use completely different approaches. Chargeup Extra Fee aims to increase revenue by allowing merchants to add customizable fees at checkout for things like shipping protection or gift wrapping. It positions itself as a tool to enhance the customer experience while boosting profit margins through optional add-ons. Product Samples by Luke, on the other hand, focuses on reducing returns and increasing sales by enabling customers to purchase product samples before committing to a full-sized product. This app targets merchants who sell products where customers may need to assess quality, fit, or suitability before a full purchase. The crucial difference lies in their core function: Chargeup Extra Fee leverages added costs for services, while Product Samples by Luke focuses on pre-purchase sampling. One adds costs to the customer, and the other offers a low-cost alternative to a full product. Furthermore, the apps differ significantly in reputation. Product Samples by Luke has a perfect 5/5 rating based on 43 reviews, suggesting high customer satisfaction and reliability. Conversely, Chargeup Extra Fee currently has no reviews, which makes it difficult to assess its usability and effectiveness.

Our Verdict
Product Samples by Luke is the safer and more reliable choice at this time. Its perfect rating and established user base indicate a well-functioning app that addresses a specific need effectively. Merchants seeking to reduce returns and increase sales by offering samples should strongly consider this app. Chargeup Extra Fee, while potentially useful for merchants who want to offer additional services like gift wrapping or shipping protection for a fee, carries significant risk due to its lack of reviews and unproven track record.
If a merchant is comfortable being an early adopter and is willing to thoroughly test and provide feedback, Chargeup Extra Fee might be worth exploring, particularly if they have a specific need for customizable checkout fees. However, given the current data, Product Samples by Luke is the clear frontrunner for merchants looking to implement a proven pricing strategy.
Common Questions
Which app is better for increasing overall profit?
It depends on the store. Chargeup Extra Fee aims to directly increase profit per order through added fees. Product Samples by Luke focuses on long-term profit by reducing returns and increasing customer satisfaction, leading to repeat purchases and larger average order values.
Which app is easier to integrate into an existing Shopify store?
Both apps claim seamless integration, but without reviews for Chargeup Extra Fee, it's impossible to verify. Product Samples by Luke's positive reviews suggest a smooth integration process.
Which app offers a better customer experience?
This is subjective. Some customers may appreciate the added options offered by Chargeup Extra Fee (e.g., gift wrapping), while others may find it annoying. Product Samples by Luke likely provides a better experience for customers hesitant to purchase full-sized products without trying them first.
Are there any direct competitors between Chargeup Extra Fee and Product Samples by Luke?
No. While both relate to pricing, they are not direct competitors. They address different merchant needs and employ different strategies.
Which app requires more active management from the merchant?
Chargeup Extra Fee may require more active management as merchants need to define and adjust the fees. Product Samples by Luke requires setting up the sample product options and price, but less ongoing management after the initial setup.
