Checkout Components | Upsell vs Restrict / Disable Gift Cardsfor Shopify (2026)
Checkout Components | Upsell is positioned as a comprehensive solution for increasing average order value through targeted upsells and cross-sells during the checkout process and post-purchase. Its strength lies in its extensive customization options, including segmentation rules, content blocks, custom fields, and integrations with popular review and marketing platforms. The app aims to empower merchants to personalize the checkout experience and drive revenue without requiring coding expertise. In contrast, Restrict / Disable Gift Cards focuses on a very specific problem: managing gift card usage in conjunction with discounts and location restrictions. Its strength is its simplicity and ability to enforce fair order policies by preventing the stacking of discounts and gift cards. This app appeals to merchants who need strict control over promotional offers and geographical limitations on gift card redemption. The apps share the same Shopify category, but target very different concerns.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on boosting revenue and personalizing the checkout experience with upsells, cross-sells, and custom content, Checkout Components | Upsell is the clear choice. Its wide range of features and integrations offers the flexibility to create a tailored checkout flow designed to maximize average order value. However, if a merchant's sole concern is managing the interplay between discounts and gift cards, particularly with location-based restrictions, Restrict / Disable Gift Cards provides a straightforward and effective solution. The limited number of reviews for Restrict / Disable Gift Cards suggests it's either a newer app or serves a more niche market.
