Clerk Chat vs ExpressText Connectfor Shopify (2026)
Clerk Chat and ExpressText Connect are both Shopify apps aiming to facilitate SMS marketing, but they approach the problem from different angles and have drastically different levels of user validation in 2026. Clerk Chat focuses on two-way communication and personalized customer support through SMS and WhatsApp, positioning itself as a comprehensive customer interaction tool. It aims to empower teams to directly engage with customers for support, order updates, and marketing. ExpressText Connect, on the other hand, centers on targeted SMS campaigns through data synchronization and segmentation. The primary distinction lies in their core functionalities and target users. Clerk Chat appears geared towards merchants prioritizing real-time, personalized customer interactions and support across multiple messaging platforms (SMS and WhatsApp). ExpressText Connect caters to businesses seeking to leverage customer data for targeted marketing campaigns and increased engagement. The current user feedback strongly favors ExpressText Connect, indicated by its perfect rating and existing reviews, while Clerk Chat lacks any reviews, posing a significant risk for potential adopters.

Our Verdict
Given the current data available in 2026, ExpressText Connect is the more reliable choice for merchants. Its perfect rating and existing reviews demonstrate positive user experiences, particularly for those seeking a solution focused on data-driven, targeted SMS marketing campaigns. ExpressText Connect's emphasis on data synchronization and segmentation makes it well-suited for merchants who want to optimize their SMS marketing ROI.
Clerk Chat presents a riskier proposition due to the complete lack of reviews. While its feature set around two-way communication and WhatsApp integration might be appealing, merchants should proceed with caution and consider waiting for user feedback to emerge. If a merchant prioritizes real-time customer interaction on multiple platforms (SMS and WhatsApp) and is willing to take a chance on a new app, Clerk Chat could be considered, but only with a clear understanding of the associated risks.
