Clerk Chat vs HiTide: Grow your SMS Listfor Shopify (2026)
Clerk Chat and HiTide: Grow your SMS List both operate within the SMS marketing space on Shopify, but their focuses are distinct. Clerk Chat positions itself as a comprehensive solution for two-way SMS and WhatsApp communication, emphasizing customer support, order updates, and marketing promotions directly within the app. It seems geared towards merchants needing a full-fledged SMS communication platform for direct interaction. HiTide, on the other hand, is laser-focused on SMS list growth, leveraging Instagram DM automation to acquire and reactivate subscribers. It integrates with popular SMS marketing platforms like Attentive and Klaviyo. The key difference lies in their functionality: Clerk Chat aims to be an all-in-one communication hub, while HiTide specializes in subscriber acquisition and works in conjunction with existing SMS marketing platforms. HiTide is clearly designed for merchants already using a dedicated SMS marketing service and seeking to expand their subscriber base via Instagram. Clerk Chat is for merchants who need both SMS list capabilities plus the communication functionality for customer support, order updates, and campaign deployments.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants seeking a comprehensive SMS communication platform for customer support, order updates, and marketing campaigns, Clerk Chat *could* be an option (if the lack of ratings is addressed). However, the complete lack of reviews is concerning. Given this fact, it's very difficult to recommend Clerk Chat at this point.
HiTide: Grow your SMS List is ideal for merchants already invested in platforms like Attentive or Klaviyo who want to aggressively expand their SMS subscriber base through automated Instagram DM campaigns. Its 5-star rating and 20 reviews offer credibility. If list growth is the primary goal, HiTide is the clear choice, especially given its seamless integration with major SMS marketing providers.
