Coco: AI WhatsApp Marketing vs Dataships Checkout Opt‑infor Shopify (2026)
Coco: AI WhatsApp Marketing and Dataships Checkout Opt-in both aim to enhance merchant revenue through improved marketing efforts, but they approach the problem from vastly different angles and cater to distinct needs. Coco focuses on leveraging AI within WhatsApp marketing to recover abandoned carts, translate messaging, and automate campaigns. Its strength lies in its conversational AI and multi-lingual capabilities, targeting merchants aiming for personalized, globally-accessible customer engagement via WhatsApp. Dataships Checkout Opt-in, on the other hand, concentrates on maximizing email and SMS opt-ins at the checkout stage. Its core strength is its dynamic consent management, ensuring compliance with varying regional privacy regulations and building a robust subscriber list. Coco's AI-driven approach provides active engagement via personalized conversations on WhatsApp. This positions it favorably for merchants looking to build a more intimate relationship with their customers. Dataships provides passive growth using compliant signup flows and dynamic consent management that passively grows subscriber lists at checkout. While both applications share SMS marketing as a category, their functional overlap is minimal, as Coco concentrates on messaging and campaigns while Dataships focuses on initial consent and opt-in acquisition. The language translation features in Coco create advantages for businesses with global audiences, while Dataships provides compliant collection across global regions.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants seeking an AI-driven, personalized WhatsApp marketing solution with built-in translation capabilities, Coco: AI WhatsApp Marketing is the stronger choice. Its features target cart recovery and customer engagement through direct conversational marketing in multiple languages. However, for merchants primarily focused on expanding their email and SMS marketing lists while adhering to global privacy regulations, Dataships Checkout Opt-in is the more appropriate selection. Its dynamic consent management ensures compliance and optimizes opt-in rates at the checkout stage.
If a business already has strong email and SMS marketing strategies in place and requires a robust and compliant mechanism to grow its contact lists, Dataships is recommended. Conversely, if a business seeks to engage customers directly through WhatsApp with personalized AI assistance and automated campaigns, Coco is the superior choice, particularly for those operating in multiple language markets.
