Dataships Checkout Opt‑in vs Laylofor Shopify (2026)
Dataships Checkout Opt‑in and Laylo both offer SMS marketing capabilities on Shopify, but target different merchant profiles and points in the customer journey. Dataships focuses on optimizing the checkout process to acquire email and SMS opt-ins while adhering to regional privacy regulations. Its core strength lies in its dynamic consent widget and Klaviyo integration, enabling merchants to grow their subscriber lists compliantly. Laylo, on the other hand, positions itself as a 'Drop CRM' for creators and brands, aiming to facilitate product launches and fan engagement through automated notifications across SMS, email, and social media DMs. Dataships prioritizes conversion at checkout and ongoing compliance, making it suitable for merchants prioritizing list growth and adherence to privacy laws. Laylo caters to a different segment - creators and brands leveraging limited-time product 'drops.' Laylo focuses on CRM functionality, audience segmentation, and streamlined notifications. Thus, merchants need to evaluate whether they are looking for compliant list growth at checkout, or CRM tools for drop management and fan engagement.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on growing their email and SMS lists compliantly during the checkout process, Dataships Checkout Opt‑in is the better choice. Its dynamic consent management and Klaviyo integration offer a streamlined approach to acquisition and compliance. Laylo is more suitable for creators and brands utilizing 'drop' strategies, needing CRM tools to manage audience communication across multiple channels. Given the lack of ratings and reviews for Laylo, and the solid track record of Dataships, caution should be exercised when opting for the former. Merchants focusing on product drops should seek out Laylo reviews from similar businesses before investing.
In scenarios where a merchant is looking to improve general email and SMS marketing consent practices, or have international customers with diverse consent preferences, Dataships would likely offer more immediate value. Conversely, If a merchant runs many product drops and values a consolidated fan and user CRM, Laylo *could* be useful if it had positive reviews and verifiable results.
