Dataships Checkout Opt‑in vs Popmunk: Email & Phone Pop‑upsfor Shopify (2026)
Both Dataships Checkout Opt‑in and Popmunk: Email & Phone Pop‑ups aim to help Shopify merchants grow their email and SMS marketing lists. However, they differ significantly in their approach and maturity. Dataships focuses on checkout optimization with dynamic consent management tailored to regional privacy requirements. Its strength lies in ensuring compliance while maximizing opt-ins during the checkout process. This positions Dataships towards merchants prioritizing legal compliance and a seamless, trustworthy checkout experience. It also highlights Dataships intended audience as stores seeking growth with a compliant approach to marketing. In contrast, Popmunk seems to offer broader pop-up functionality for email and phone acquisition. Without detailed feature descriptions, it's difficult to assess the depth of its privacy compliance or checkout-specific optimization capabilities. Based on the limited data available, and with significantly fewer reviews, Popmunk appears to be a newer and potentially more general-purpose solution, possibly suited for merchants looking for basic pop-up functionality rather than a legally-focused growth tool like Dataships. It's also important to note that given the review count difference (43 vs 2), one app has significantly more social proof than the other.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing legal compliance and maximizing opt-ins during checkout, especially those operating in regions with strict privacy regulations, Dataships Checkout Opt‑in is the clearly superior choice. Its dynamic consent widget, audit logs, and dedicated support team offer peace of mind and a robust growth strategy. The seamless Klaviyo integration is a bonus.
Popmunk: Email & Phone Pop‑ups might be a suitable option for smaller stores or those just starting to experiment with email and SMS marketing. However, the lack of detailed feature information and minimal reviews make it difficult to confidently recommend over Dataships, especially for merchants who have a need to be compliant with data and privacy laws.
