Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants primarily concerned with enhancing image SEO, improving user experience through visual content, and streamlining ALT text creation, Describerry ‑ Image ALT Texts is the more suitable choice. Its AI-powered automation and brand-focused approach offer a focused solution for optimizing images. However, the low number of reviews is a significant caveat.
If a merchant's priority is comprehensive accessibility compliance, minimizing legal risk, and addressing a wide range of potential accessibility issues across their entire store, Scanify ‑ Accessibility Scan is the better option. It offers a broader scope with its full-site scanning capabilities, checking for various standards-based checkpoints. However, the complete lack of reviews or rating should give pause.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to use?
Based on their feature sets, Describerry is likely easier to use due to its focused functionality on ALT text generation. Scanify, with its comprehensive site scanning and numerous checkpoints, may require more technical understanding to interpret the results and implement the suggested fixes.
Which app provides a better return on investment?
It depends on your goals. If you're aiming to improve image search visibility and save time on ALT text, Describerry could offer a better ROI. If you're trying to avoid potential legal issues related to accessibility, Scanify might be more valuable despite the lack of social proof.
Does either app fix accessibility issues automatically?
Describerry automatically generates ALT texts, which contributes to accessibility. Scanify appears to only identify accessibility issues. It doesn't fix them automatically; instead, it provides reports and guidance.
Which app is better for a small business with limited resources?
Describerry might be more manageable for a small business due to its focus and ease of use, though the lack of reviews is a concern. It addresses a specific accessibility issue (ALT text) efficiently. Scanify's broader scope could be overwhelming for a small team.
How do I choose between a narrow focus on ALT texts vs. a broad accessibility scan?
Assess your current accessibility standing. If ALT texts are a known weakness, Describerry addresses it directly. If you're unsure of your overall accessibility and want a comprehensive overview of potential issues, Scanify is more appropriate, but consider the lack of reviews carefully.
