DRINKS ASSURE vs OneID Age Verificationfor Shopify (2026)
DRINKS ASSURE and OneID Age Verification are both Shopify apps in the 'Legal' category, but they address entirely different needs. DRINKS ASSURE is specifically designed for alcohol producers and retailers, focusing on real-time tax and regulatory compliance related to alcohol sales. It aims to automate tax calculations (Excise, Alcohol, CRV) and integrate with POS systems and shipping compliance tools like ShipCompliant. Its value proposition lies in simplifying the complexities of alcohol-related legal requirements, enabling merchants to scale online sales with confidence. OneID Age Verification, on the other hand, targets a broader range of businesses that require age verification. It provides a frictionless way to confirm customers are over 18, integrating directly into the checkout process. It focuses on user experience and compliance with general data protection regulations (GDPR) and BSI PAS 1296. OneID distinguishes itself through its ability to verify most customers silently during checkout and its compatibility with express checkout options like Apple Pay and Google Pay. It prioritizes ease of installation and configuration, aiming to protect businesses while providing a seamless experience for customers.

Our Verdict
DRINKS ASSURE is the clear choice for any alcohol producer or retailer selling online through Shopify. Its specialized focus on alcohol tax and regulatory compliance, coupled with features like POS integration and state filing reports, makes it invaluable for navigating the complex landscape of alcohol sales. The higher rating and more reviews, while still a small sample size, suggest a positive user experience within its niche.
OneID Age Verification is more suitable for businesses that need general age verification capabilities but aren't necessarily in the alcohol industry. Its broader compatibility with various checkout options and its focus on user experience make it a strong contender for e-commerce stores selling age-restricted products beyond alcohol. The ease of use and focus on silent verification are key differentiators for businesses seeking a minimal impact on the checkout flow.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
OneID Age Verification is advertised as being easier to set up, stating it can be configured in just a few minutes. DRINKS ASSURE focuses more on the complexity of alcohol regulations and automation, implying potentially more involved configuration initially.
Does DRINKS ASSURE verify age?
While DRINKS ASSURE ensures compliance with alcohol-related regulations, its primary function isn't age verification. It assumes age has been verified elsewhere and focuses on calculating and applying the correct taxes and fees.
Which app is better for reducing checkout friction?
OneID Age Verification emphasizes reducing checkout friction through silent verification and integration with express checkout options like Apple Pay and Google Pay. DRINKS ASSURE, while seamless, necessarily adds steps related to tax calculation which may slightly increase friction.
Which app offers more comprehensive compliance?
DRINKS ASSURE offers more comprehensive compliance *specifically for alcohol sales*, covering tax, regulatory rules, and reporting requirements. OneID Age Verification provides more general compliance with age verification standards (GDPR and BSI PAS 1296).
If I sell alcohol AND other age-restricted products, which app should I use?
In that scenario, you may need both apps. DRINKS ASSURE for alcohol-specific tax and compliance, and OneID Age Verification to handle the general age verification requirement for all age-restricted products. Consider checking if there is compatibility between them to minimize conflicts.
