DRINKS ASSURE vs Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automationfor Shopify (2026)
DRINKS ASSURE and Tax Rex ‑ Sales Tax Automation are both highly rated (5/5) Shopify apps in the Finances and Taxes categories, aiming to simplify tax compliance for merchants. However, they cater to drastically different niches. DRINKS ASSURE focuses exclusively on alcohol producers and retailers, providing real-time tax and compliance solutions specific to the alcohol industry, including features like Excise, Alcohol, and CRV tax capture. Tax Rex, on the other hand, offers a more general solution for US state sales tax automation, focusing on generating reports, timely filings, and economic nexus monitoring for a broader range of e-commerce businesses. The core difference lies in their specialization. DRINKS ASSURE offers a set-it-and-forget solution for the complex tax landscape of the alcohol industry, while Tax Rex provides tools for managing sales tax across various US states. While Tax Rex generates reports from data collected within Shopify, DRINKS ASSURE integrates directly into the checkout process, making real-time tax calculations and compliance checks. This integration is crucial for alcohol sales, given the tight regulations on that industry. Tax Rex also provides features like marketplace order exclusion that DRINKS ASSURE doesn't seem to offer given the data, indicating a focus on a wider variety of sales channels. The considerable disparity in the number of reviews (14 vs 91) suggests that Tax Rex has a larger and potentially more established user base.

Our Verdict
If you are an alcohol producer or retailer selling online through Shopify, DRINKS ASSURE is the clear choice. Its real-time integration and focus on alcohol-specific regulations make it indispensable for compliance. The smaller number of reviews might indicate it's a newer app, but the specialization provides significant value in a highly regulated market.
For general e-commerce businesses needing help with US state sales tax, Tax Rex is likely the better option. Its broader feature set, larger user base, and focus on economic nexus and filing automation make it a robust solution for managing sales tax complexities across multiple states. DRINKS ASSURE would be overkill if you aren't dealing with alcohol sales. If your business model is marketplace heavy, Tax Rex also seems like the way to go.
