Essential Free Shipping Upsell vs Keeper—Recover Abandoned Cartsfor Shopify (2026)
Essential Free Shipping Upsell and Keeper—Recover Abandoned Carts target distinct stages of the customer journey. Essential Free Shipping Upsell focuses on increasing Average Order Value (AOV) and driving immediate sales by incentivizing customers to add more items to their cart to qualify for free shipping or other rewards. Its strengths lie in its customization options for the free shipping progress bar and the integrated upselling/cross-selling features. It is positioned for merchants who want to actively encourage customers to spend more during their current session. Keeper—Recover Abandoned Carts, on the other hand, focuses on recovering lost sales by targeting customers who have already abandoned their carts. While its rating is lower and it has fewer reviews than Essential Free Shipping Upsell, it addresses a critical pain point for e-commerce businesses: cart abandonment. The app aims to bring potentially lost customers back to complete their purchase. The fact that both apps share the 'Checkout' and 'Cart customization' categories indicates some overlap in areas they affect, but the fundamental goals are quite different. One drives immediate sales, the other attempts to recover lost ones.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with maximizing immediate sales and increasing Average Order Value (AOV), Essential Free Shipping Upsell is likely the better choice. Its features are geared towards actively influencing customer behavior during the shopping session. The high rating and large number of reviews suggest a positive user experience and effective results.
However, if the merchant's priority is recovering lost sales and minimizing the impact of cart abandonment, Keeper—Recover Abandoned Carts is the more suitable option, despite the lower rating and fewer reviews. These apps address completely separate issues and may be used in conjunction to optimize revenue from both sides of the funnel.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to use?
Without user reviews specifically addressing ease of use for Keeper, we can infer that Essential Free Shipping Upsell might be slightly easier to set up initially due to the high rating and focus on simple, visual customization. However, further research on setup processes would be required to verify this.
Which app provides a better ROI?
Both apps can provide a good ROI, but it depends on the merchant's specific circumstances. If a store already has a high conversion rate but a low AOV, Essential Free Shipping Upsell is likely to provide a better ROI. Conversely, a store with a high abandonment rate would benefit more from Keeper—Recover Abandoned Carts.
Can these apps be used together?
Yes, these apps can complement each other. Essential Free Shipping Upsell works to prevent cart abandonment by increasing AOV. Keeper—Recover Abandoned Carts is a safety net for when customers abandon their carts despite the upsell attempts.
Which app is more suitable for a new store?
A new store could benefit from both, but perhaps prioritizing Essential Free Shipping Upsell initially might be wise, focusing on driving AOV from early customers. Once sales volume increases, implementing Keeper would likely be more valuable.
Does Essential Free Shipping Upsell recover abandoned carts?
The description of Essential Free Shipping Upsell doesn't mention any explicit abandoned cart recovery features. Its primary focus is on increasing AOV during the active shopping session. Therefore, no, it does not directly recover abandoned carts.
