Essential Free Shipping Upsell vs Puco Checkout Rulesfor Shopify (2026)
Essential Free Shipping Upsell and Puco Checkout Rules both aim to improve checkout conversions for Shopify merchants but approach it from different angles. Essential Free Shipping Upsell focuses primarily on increasing Average Order Value (AOV) through a free shipping progress bar, integrated cart upsells, and cross-sells. It's designed to incentivize customers to add more items to their cart to qualify for free shipping or other rewards. Puco Checkout Rules, on the other hand, likely focuses on more complex and customizable rules during the checkout process to optimize the customer experience. While Essential Free Shipping Upsell mentions revenue tracking and customization, it appears geared towards straightforward free shipping-based upselling. The significant difference in the number of reviews (438 vs 56) suggests Essential Free Shipping Upsell has a larger and potentially more established user base. While Puco Checkout Rules has a very slightly lower rating (4.9 vs 5.0), its core strength might lie in more sophisticated checkout logic that goes beyond simple AOV boosting, potentially offering functionalities not explicitly mentioned in either app's description. Given their shared category of "Checkout", both target merchants looking to improve their checkout process, but with different priorities.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on increasing AOV through easily implemented free shipping incentives, Essential Free Shipping Upsell appears to be the stronger choice. Its high rating and large number of reviews suggest reliability and effectiveness in that specific area. The mentioned support for Online Store 2.0 themes is also beneficial.
However, merchants requiring more granular control over the checkout process, potentially beyond simple free shipping incentives, might find Puco Checkout Rules more suitable. While its features are not fully detailed, the name implies the ability to create custom rules and logic during checkout. This app would be better for merchants with specific checkout process pain points that a general free shipping approach might not address. It's crucial to investigate Puco's feature set further before making a final decision. In 2026, understanding what specific checkout rules the app can manage would be crucial.
