Essential Free Shipping Upsell vs UpsellPlus Checkout Upsellfor Shopify (2026)
Essential Free Shipping Upsell focuses on incentivizing customers to spend more by using a free shipping progress bar. It provides a straightforward method for increasing average order value (AOV) by setting cart goals and rewarding customers who reach them. This app is particularly beneficial for merchants seeking an easy-to-implement solution to increase sales through strategically implemented free shipping thresholds. UpsellPlus Checkout Upsell offers a broader suite of upselling tools centered around the checkout process and post-purchase experience. It provides more sophisticated features like checkout extensions, dynamic upsell blocks, A/B testing, and thank you page customization. While it boasts higher-end features, it's also limited to Shopify Plus users for the checkout modification features. This app appears suitable for larger merchants (particularly Shopify Plus users) who are looking for advanced control over the entire customer journey, not just the cart, and are ready to invest time into optimizing their upselling strategies.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a simple and effective method to boost AOV through strategically implemented free shipping, Essential Free Shipping Upsell is the recommended choice. Its straightforward approach and ease of use make it suitable for businesses of all sizes, especially those new to upselling. The higher number of reviews also suggests wider adoption and potentially a more mature product.
UpsellPlus Checkout Upsell caters to larger merchants, particularly those on Shopify Plus, who need more control over their checkout and post-purchase experiences. While it offers a powerful suite of tools, the Shopify Plus exclusivity for crucial features like checkout modification limits its applicability to smaller businesses. If you require robust A/B testing, dynamic upsell strategies, and comprehensive post-purchase upselling capabilities, and you have Shopify Plus, then UpsellPlus is a good option.
