Gift Check Pro vs Selling Pointfor Shopify (2026)
Gift Check Pro and Selling Point, while both categorized under 'Gifts' and 'Gift Cards' in the Shopify app store, serve distinct purposes. Gift Check Pro focuses on enabling customers to easily check gift card balances both on the Point of Sale (POS) system and the storefront, offering a liability report for merchants to track gift card activity. It emphasizes improving customer experience and reducing support tickets related to gift card inquiries. Selling Point, on the other hand, is designed to facilitate the migration of existing gift card or store credit data from other platforms (POS systems or websites) into Shopify, allowing merchants to easily transition their gift card programs. The key difference lies in their application. Gift Check Pro is for merchants who already have a gift card system within Shopify and want to improve the customer experience by providing easy balance checks. Selling Point targets merchants migrating from a different platform or importing legacy physical gift cards as virtual ones and focuses on the initial setup and transition of gift card data into Shopify. Therefore, they address different stages of a gift card program lifecycle.

Our Verdict
For merchants who are already using Shopify's gift card functionality and need a robust system for customers to easily check their gift card balances both online and in-store, Gift Check Pro appears to be a suitable option. However, the lack of ratings and reviews is a significant concern. On the other hand, if a merchant is transitioning to Shopify from another platform and needs to migrate existing gift card data or convert physical gift cards to virtual ones, Selling Point is the clear choice. The positive reviews suggest a reliable and user-friendly experience for migrating gift card and store credit data.
In summary, Selling Point is generally the safer recommendation based on available data, given its established positive reputation. Gift Check Pro requires further validation before being confidently recommended, despite addressing a valid need for existing Shopify gift card users.
Common Questions
Which app is better for new Shopify stores?
If a new Shopify store has existing gift card balances from a previous system, Selling Point would be required to import these. If starting fresh with Shopify's gift card feature, neither app is directly necessary at the outset but Gift Check Pro could add value later.
Does Gift Check Pro import gift cards from other platforms?
No, Gift Check Pro's primary focus is on allowing customers to check balances on existing gift cards within Shopify, not importing them from other platforms.
Is Selling Point useful for merchants already using Shopify gift cards?
Not directly. Selling Point is specifically for migrating or importing gift cards from *other* systems. If a merchant is already managing gift cards within Shopify, Selling Point won't offer any benefits.
Which app is better for reducing customer support inquiries?
Gift Check Pro directly addresses this by providing an easy way for customers to check their balances, which should reduce the number of support tickets related to balance inquiries. Selling Point does not directly impact support inquiries after the data migration.
What are the risks of using Gift Check Pro with no reviews?
The primary risk is that the app may not function as advertised, have bugs, or lack adequate support. Without reviews, there's no independent verification of its quality or reliability. Thoroughly test before full deployment.
