HiTide: Grow your SMS List vs Recart: SMS & List Growthfor Shopify (2026)
HiTide: Grow your SMS List and Recart: SMS & List Growth both aim to help Shopify merchants grow their SMS marketing lists, but they approach this goal from different angles. HiTide focuses specifically on leveraging Instagram Direct Messages for SMS opt-ins, integrating with popular SMS platforms like Attentive, Klaviyo, and Postscript. This makes it a specialized tool for merchants who are actively using Instagram for marketing and already have a preferred SMS platform. Recart, on the other hand, positions itself as a more comprehensive, fully-managed SMS marketing solution, using AI-powered personalization and offering a dedicated Customer Success Manager (CSM).

Our Verdict
HiTide is ideal for Shopify merchants already invested in Instagram marketing and using a specific SMS platform like Attentive, Klaviyo or Postscript. Its strength lies in its targeted approach to acquiring SMS subscribers through Instagram DMs and its ease of integration with existing tools. It's a good choice for merchants who want to maintain control over their SMS campaigns and leverage their existing social media presence for list growth.
Recart, on the other hand, is better suited for merchants who prefer a hands-off approach to SMS marketing. Its fully-managed service, AI-powered personalization, and dedicated CSM make it a compelling option for businesses looking to outsource their SMS strategy and drive significant growth with minimal effort. While the pricing may be higher given the managed service aspect, the potential return on investment could be substantial, especially for merchants new to SMS marketing or those lacking the resources to manage it effectively.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
HiTide likely offers a simpler initial setup process due to its focus on Instagram DM automation and integration with specific SMS platforms. Recart's setup might be more involved, given its broader range of features and fully-managed service. However, Recart's managed service aspect will reduce hands-on involvement over time.
Which app is better for scaling SMS marketing efforts?
Recart, with its AI-powered personalization and fully-managed service, is likely better for scaling SMS marketing efforts. The AI can optimize campaigns for maximum results, and the dedicated CSM can provide strategic guidance as the business grows. HiTide is focused on list growth, not full-fledged campaign management.
Which app offers more control over SMS campaigns?
HiTide provides more direct control over SMS campaigns, as merchants choose from ready-made templates or craft their own Instagram DM campaigns. Recart's AI and CSM may limit direct control, but can likely provide guidance and A/B testing options.
Which app is a better choice for businesses without a strong Instagram presence?
Recart is the better choice for businesses without a strong Instagram presence. HiTide's core functionality relies on Instagram DM automation, making it less effective for merchants who don't actively use the platform. Recart offers custom popups and other features suitable for websites or other channels.
Which app is more cost-effective?
It depends. HiTide may appear more cost-effective upfront because you manage everything and bring your own SMS platform. Recart includes the SMS platform and management service, which can cost more but may be cheaper if you value your time and higher conversion rates. Review pricing for both services before deciding.
