Klarna vs Partialy ‑ Partial Payment CODfor Shopify (2026)
Klarna and Partialy ‑ Partial Payment COD both fall under the 'Payments' category on Shopify, but they cater to very different needs and operate with contrasting approaches. Klarna positions itself as a global BNPL solution aiming to boost conversions by offering customers flexible payment options like 'pay later' and financing, targeting merchants seeking to increase sales by broadening payment accessibility. Partialy, on the other hand, focuses on mitigating risks associated with Cash on Delivery (COD) and pre-orders by enabling partial upfront payments. The primary difference lies in their payment structures and risk management strategies. Klarna fully pays the merchant upfront, assuming the risk of customer repayment. Partialy empowers merchants to receive a deposit upfront, reducing the risk of Return To Origin (RTO) and providing more flexibility with pre-orders and advanced COD rules. The apps' target audiences also diverge considerably: Klarna is for merchants looking to boost overall sales volume through flexible payment plans, while Partialy is more suitable for merchants prioritizing risk mitigation in COD and pre-order scenarios. The drastically different ratings also suggest vastly different user experiences.

Our Verdict
Given its extremely low rating and lack of reviews, Klarna's Shopify app, as it currently exists in 2026 according to the data, is a risky choice. Unless significant improvements have been made and reflected in its rating and review count, it's difficult to recommend. Partialy ‑ Partial Payment COD, with its perfect rating and more substantial number of reviews, appears to be a much safer and more reliable option.
For merchants heavily reliant on COD or pre-orders, Partialy is the clear winner. Its ability to collect partial payments, configure advanced COD rules, and manage shipping rates provides valuable tools for risk mitigation and order management. If a merchant is simply looking to integrate a widely recognized BNPL option to generally increase sales conversions, and is willing to accept potential risks associated with poor user experience as indicated by Klarna's rating, then Klarna might be considered after thorough investigation and verifying improved performance.
