KOBU ‑ Menu Highlight vs Search Veilfor Shopify (2026)
KOBU ‑ Menu Highlight and Search Veil, while both categorized under 'Search and Navigation' on the Shopify App Store, address fundamentally different needs for merchants. KOBU ‑ Menu Highlight focuses on *improving* product discoverability and navigation by creating visually appealing and user-friendly menus, similar to social media interfaces like Instagram stories. Its goal is to reduce bounce rates and increase conversion by making it easier for customers to find relevant products. Search Veil, conversely, aims to *restrict* product discoverability by hiding specific items from internal search results. The core difference lies in their purpose: KOBU enhances the customer journey by showcasing products, collections, or pages in an intuitive way, while Search Veil protects specific products from being easily found. KOBU targets merchants seeking to boost sales through improved navigation and visual merchandising, while Search Veil caters to those who need to control product visibility for strategic reasons, such as offering exclusive free gifts or managing special fees not applicable to all customers. Essentially, KOBU is about increased visibility, and Search Veil is about controlled obscurity.

Our Verdict
The choice between KOBU ‑ Menu Highlight and Search Veil hinges entirely on the merchant's specific needs. If the goal is to enhance the customer experience and improve product discovery by creating engaging and easy-to-navigate menus, then KOBU is the clear choice. Its visual approach and emphasis on intuitive navigation are geared towards boosting conversions.
However, if the merchant requires precise control over which products are visible in search results – for example, to offer exclusive free gifts or manage special, non-publicly purchasable items – then Search Veil is the appropriate solution. Search Veil's ability to hide products based on specific criteria provides a level of control that KOBU simply doesn't offer. It's a niche tool, but essential for those with specific product visibility requirements.
