KOBU ‑ Menu Highlight vs Shopchat: AI Search Assistantfor Shopify (2026)
KOBU ‑ Menu Highlight and Shopchat: AI Search Assistant, while both falling under the 'Search and navigation' category on Shopify, address fundamentally different aspects of the customer experience. KOBU focuses on visual menu enhancements to improve product discovery and navigation through aesthetically pleasing menus reminiscent of social media interfaces, aiming to reduce bounce rates and boost conversions. Shopchat, on the other hand, leverages AI to directly engage with customers, answering questions and recommending products, effectively acting as a virtual assistant to drive sales without human intervention. Shopchat uses a technological solution (AI chat) to proactively engage with customers, understand their needs, and provide personalized recommendations. Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing a visually appealing and user-friendly navigation experience, particularly those with collections needing better highlighting, KOBU ‑ Menu Highlight is the clear choice. Its established positive rating and focus on intuitive design make it a safer bet. It provides an easy way to enable mobile menu bars, and comprehensive options to tailor the menu to the look and feel of the store.
On the other hand, Shopchat: AI Search Assistant is suitable for merchants looking to leverage AI for customer support and sales. While it currently lacks reviews, its potential for personalized product recommendations and automated customer query resolution makes it an interesting option, assuming the merchant is comfortable with the risks associated with a new app. Its success relies heavily on the quality of its AI training and the willingness of customers to interact with an AI assistant.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to implement for a non-technical user?
Both apps claim ease of use, but KOBU's visual menu builder might be more intuitive for users without coding experience, while Shopchat relies on the AI configuration already available.
Which app provides better long-term value for customer retention?
Both have potential. KOBU enhances the overall browsing experience, potentially encouraging repeat visits. Shopchat provides instant answers, recommendations, and a more personalized shopping trip which can lead to customer loyalty.
Which app is more focused on increasing sales?
Shopchat directly aims to increase sales by offering personalized product recommendations and answering customer queries that might lead to a purchase, while KOBU's impact on sales is more indirect through improved navigation and discoverability.
What are the risks associated with using each app?
With KOBU, the main risk is that the visual menu design may not align with the store's branding or be effective for all product types.
