Layaway Control Panel vs Sezzle Widgetfor Shopify (2026)
Layaway Control Panel and Sezzle Widget both address alternative payment methods on Shopify, but cater to different merchant needs. Layaway Control Panel focuses on traditional layaway plans, allowing customers to pay for products over time before receiving them. With a significantly higher rating (4.7/5) and a smaller number of reviews (40), it suggests a potentially more satisfied, albeit smaller, user base. Sezzle Widget, on the other hand, provides Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) and longer-term financing options through Sezzle. Its lower rating (3.6/5) despite more reviews (63) might indicate usability issues or unmet expectations from some users. Sezzle explicitly aims to increase sales and average order value by displaying installment payment options, targeting merchants looking for immediate sales boosts through flexible payment terms. The key differentiator lies in the payment model: layaway versus BNPL and longer-term financing. Layaway Control Panel implies the merchant manages the layaway process, while Sezzle leverages an existing BNPL infrastructure. Furthermore, Sezzle Widget's functionality is currently limited to US and Canadian shoppers, which is a crucial consideration for international merchants. Sezzle's widgets and modals adjust dynamically based on product and cart value, streamlining the user experience and potentially driving higher conversion rates. The availability of dedicated support further simplifies the setup process for Sezzle, possibly addressing complexity concerns implied by its lower rating.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing customer satisfaction and offering a traditional layaway payment structure, Layaway Control Panel appears to be the stronger choice, assuming its functionality meets their specific layaway management needs. The higher rating suggests a positive user experience. However, the limited number of reviews warrants caution.
If the primary goal is to boost sales and average order values through Buy Now Pay Later options specifically for customers in the US and Canada, Sezzle Widget is the better option. The lower rating should be taken into consideration, but the dedicated support team and dynamic widget functionality might outweigh potential usability issues. Merchants outside the US and Canada should avoid Sezzle, as it won't function for their customers. Merchants should also evaluate the costs associated with Sezzle transactions.
